Maybe since he has a wife who is so actively democratic, he has to appear unbiased and over-compensates. Just a guess.

While his wife may fit that bill he doesn't fit it in any way shape or form.

Maybe in his job he needs to be unbiased, so BECAUSE OF HIS WIFE he over-compensates and comes off looking very conservative. These people get paid well and they'll do what they have to to keep their jobs.
