2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumA key factor that many people are missing in the whole "bringing the party together" assessment.
Obama was able to bring the party together in 2008 because he didn't have any baggage.
Clinton, unlike Obama in 2008 has a HUGE amount of baggage and because of her actions disliked by many. While Clinton supporters might have been upset with what happened in the 2008 primary, they didn't have any problem with Obama prior to 2008. Thus it was easier to come together.
Well this isn't 2008 and Hillary Clinton is no Barack Obama. People tried to shout down Susan Sarandon for telling the truth about what she is hearing from people. All that does is silence the message but it doesn't make the message any less true.

(68,868 posts)the party will come together. That does not mean that Naderite nitwits like Sarandon will be with the program, but you can't win them all.

(10,164 posts)I wonder if you have even the slightest idea how many people have hardened their position against Hillary precisely because of asshole statements like that by her supporters. That would require both objective self-assessment and and honesty...so I'll not get my hopes up.

(27,787 posts)Ironically, the folks who are the most anti-Hillary on DU these days are many of the same folks who became "very disappointed" with Obama about 10 minutes after he took the oath of office.

(27,787 posts)Bernie would do no better.
Many of his angriest supporters would turn on him after his first compromise.

(45,851 posts)I for one know that compromise is necessary in politics but where you begin compromising from in the first place makes a great deal of difference.
All of life is politics, we are constantly negotiating and renegotiating the terms our lives with the others we contact, it's not some black art that only a few know.

Clinton is divisive within her own party much much
more than Obama ever was.
Already during the wintertime it became clear that
about 12 - 15% of registered Dems refused to go
with her.
Add to that the fact that only 30% of registered voters
are Dems, you will get a final of 26 - 28% of voters
for her.
Who would call that a strong unified and effective party?

Kiss and make up after the election? Not a fucking chance...
