Four pinocchios for Bernie's "false claim" about his tax returns.
Excerpts from the Washington Post Fact Checker:
The publications scathing article notes that Sanders had dismissed the idea of charities in his early days as mayor and that view was confirmed in his 1995 tax return, which showed Sanders donated just 1 percent of his income ($1,369) to charity. Over the years, Bill Clintons taken bigger deductions for dropping his pre-owned Jockey shorts off at the Salvation Army. Can you say Scrooge? wrote Peter Freyne, a legendary chronicler of Vermont politics.
While Sanders rejected Tappers assertion that the public has no access to all of Sanderss tax returns, we have no evidence he has released any other federal income tax return than the Form 1040 from 2014. The campaign confirmed to The Washington Post that it did not release other tax returns prior to 2014.
But the campaign did not respond to further questions about this topic, including our questions about his decision to release only a Form 1040 rather than a full tax return and why Sanders claimed he released other tax returns in the past.
Plainly put, Sanders has not released his full federal tax return. The little he has released was the Form 1040 in 2014, which is a summary of his tax filing that gives a snapshot of his finances not what is considered a full tax return. The Sanders campaign confirmed to The Washington Post that it has not released other tax returns prior to 2014, which is a sharp contrast to Clintons voluminous release of her complete tax returns.
Tapper correctly questioned Sanders, asking why nobody has seen them [federal tax returns] at all. Yet Sanders interrupted Tapper to reject the notion, insisting: That is not true. Of course, we have released them in the past. But this answer is nothing remotely close to the little federal tax records he has released to the public.
Sanders is not required to release his tax filings, and he clearly decided to keep them confidential. Thats his choice. But it doesnt excuse him from misleading the public to believe otherwise with this false claim.

(1,019 posts)Basically going "Full Trump" lately at his rallies.
If he just accepted that he lost the primary and moved on to what he promised to do by working with Democrats against Republicans, he'd be fine. But he seems intent on burning his own brand to ground before the primary is over.
Dirty Bernie.

If he released the tax filings, he's have no platform for his stump speech. What broadbrushed false narratives would he blanket his fans with against Hillary?
And we haven't even gotten to Jane's "charitable family trust fund" tucked away in the Caribbean.
How would that look when his mantra stump speech is beating up Hillary for Wall St, Goldman, & those darned Big Banks.
OOPS!
Look at this list..my my my.

(2,353 posts)He is attacking the greed and reckless behavior of Wall Street executives who nearly destroyed our economy...
He is attacking the idea that greedy executives, billionaires, and millionaires feel entitled to buy elections to ensure politicians continue to create a legal system that rewards them whether they win or lose.

(9,148 posts)Now why on earth would anyone open an offshore charitable trust in the Caribbean, oh..say..compared to supporting your local Credit Union?
(Google it)
Why?
So many curious questions still unanswered.

(9,148 posts)I questioned why they won't release their Tax docs to keep people from suspicions like, " Why does anyone open a "Charitable Trust " in the Caribbean when they claim to have so little wealth in the first place.
What would motivate them to go offshore rather than just put their meager wealth in a local credit ynion, in support of their cries against Big Banks.
Ya know, something just doesn't add up here.
Hmmmm

Bernie Sanders Accused of Using Campaign Money to Benefit Family
Why wouldn't a couple who stumps against the ills of tax havens, Wall St, Big.Banks, fraud, bla blabla..not be upfront in revealing their own Tax Docs. Its hard to buy their claims against others when ya find out this stuff.
He's a politician. That's all I see anymore. Not a drop of purity. Disgusting.
The Clintons have made availible their tax docs for years.
And why the Caribbean Trust Acct?
Hmmm.
No need to respond. I've seen enough.
The hypocrisy is getting too thick as this campaign moves along.
EDIT:
There's more & I will link it when I'm home later tonight.

(11,495 posts)Jane's "charitable family trust fund" tucked away in the Caribbean. Bernie needs to do some explaining about that one. If I had to guess what it is he doesn't want to let out to the public, it would be that one.

(24,396 posts)Sure, his supporters will point to technicalities (he doesn't have to release them) as an excuse, but the fact is that anyone running for president knows that you are expected to make a full financial disclosure at some point so voters know if you walk the walk or simply talk the talk.
Apparently, Sanders does not walk the walk. For one who is so quick to vilify others for their lack of transparency, it's ludicrous that he feels that he can get away with not disclosing his finances. It stands to reason that if Sanders feels the privilege to not follow the normal order of things that all of the people he rails against - Hillary, Wall Street, the banks, etc - also have the privilege to not reveal information, or to engage in any activty they will as long as it's not illegal, odious as said activity may be.
Were Sanders the actual pure candidate he portrays himself as, financial disclosure would be nothing but a yuge positive for him. It would give him the opportunity to show how really different he is from the others. The fact that he not only will not disclose but that he continues to lie and say that he has disclosed should give pause to even his most-zealous followers.

(2,353 posts)The first link is for congress, because he was in Congress before the kept electronic versions of filings it probably has to be requested in another manner from the clerks office.
The second link is for the senate and it did have his disclosures there it matched up with the mutual funds another person copied into this topic

(1,377 posts)Is that in 2008 Clinton did not released any of her tax forms until end of April. And Sanders has released his 2014 ones. Which no matter what idiots say the 1040 he released is same 1040 same as every other politician has released .
