2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumAs an Atheist, I strongly support Santorum's right to bring religion to the Public Square...
...but I will fight to stop him from leaving the public square to enter the Court House, School House or Legislative Chamber.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A town square is an open public space[1] commonly found in the heart of a traditional town used for community gatherings. Other names for town square are civic center, city square, urban square, market square, public square, and town green.
Most town squares are hardscapes suitable for open markets, music concerts, political rallies, and other events that require firm ground. Being centrally located, town squares are usually surrounded by small shops such as bakeries, meat markets, cheese stores, and clothing stores. At their center is often a fountain, well, monument, or statue. Many of those with fountains are actually named Fountain Square.

(14,549 posts)so there is no literal public square in most places, and if there is it isn't used that way.
But my point was, advocating in the public square is the same as advocating in courts and schools.

(113,323 posts)open to anyone (well, at least until they started freaking about the occupiers). school and courts are different matters entirely. surely you see that?
KurtNYC
(14,549 posts)public policy (in school, courts or legislature) that religionists have a right to advocate for changes in courts, schools and legislatures?
Personally I feel no more threatened or oppressed by someone praying before a football game than I do by people rubbing rabbits feet for good luck or wishing upon a star.

(46,116 posts)Santorum's welcome to talk about his personal faith and that's it. His personal faith can have no impact or influence on laws to be made and laws to be interpreted nor on how people conduct themselves in public or in private.
I object to how his interpretation of his religion should be made into public policy. He can live his life according to his doctrine as long as it doesn't interfere with others' divergent beliefs.
