Related: About this forum"Democratic Party and Republican are the same"
That is the expression we have heard many times from independents and even a few members.
It comes from the view that leaders of the two parties will not make much difference in the course of the country.
I don't personally hold that view because as a life long Democrat and political junkie I have seen the differences.
However, there are many ways that some Democrats have produced similar results, and that is what the general public has seen.
Now before us is Bernie Sanders running for president. If elected, his administration will clarify the differences in the parties and everyone will be quite certain of those differences, for Bernie will make the Democrats look great again as he reshapes DC.
There is no doubt Bernie as our president will show the world the real differences between the two parties. He will be known as one of the best Democrats of our time.

We need a real Democratic perspective to represent us and to make good changes that help the country.

(13,685 posts)The idea that the two parties are the same would just be reinforced for most Americans.
Bernie is very distinctive and already clearly delineates what it means to be a Democrat.

The average America is not looking for huge tax hikes-even if it looks good in Christmas wrapping. They maybe willing to add tax hikes to the 1%, capital gains tax rates and carried interest but not on them
Free college, and health care for all, and no more wars, are mere fantasies to you?
I think the cons back in the days of FDR spoke pretty much as you have here, claiming all sorts of falsehoods about FDR.
FDR said he welcomed their hatred. And then he set out on his revolution.
