2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSo President Obama wasn't qualified to be president? Bernie is a demagogue, not a Democrat
According to Bernie Sanders, President Obama was not qualified to be re-elected President in 2012. Why? Not because he had already been President for four years, certainly. Certainly not because he had signed the biggest piece of healthcare legislation in half a century. Definitely not because he had saved the automotive industry and avoided another Great Depression. Obviously, it wasn't because he made the decision that led to the death of Osama bin Laden. No, it's because he, like any politician interested in winning an election in the age of Citizens United, chose to use a Super PAC. Oh, and because of TPP, right?
Of course, it wasn't President Obama he specifically singled out on this -- it was Hillary Clinton. Despite being a First Lady who led the effort to pass CHIP (which gives healthcare to 8 million poor children), being a Senator of significant achievement, and being a Secretary of State who led the efforts to rebuild America's reputation worldwide after the Bush administration and who fought for human rights around the world, Bernie Sanders says she is not qualified to be president because of Super PAC donations.
Hillary, meanwhile, has responded only by saying that she would choose Bernie Sanders for president over any Republican any day. And that shows the difference between a statesman and a demagogue. His unmerited, holier than thou shameless sense of self-righteous sanctimony says a lot about him. It's not just his most ardent supporters who think of him as a messiah. He does, too. The façade he has built around himself as someone who is above dirty politics is crumbling all around him. Losing sometimes reveals a lot of unfortunate things about a person's character. So is the case with Bernie.

(340 posts)Which describes not only Hillary Clinton, but President Obama, too.
Unless you're admitting that Bernie is inconsistent, and that's okay.
Or unless you're admitting that you and Bernie hold Sec. Clinton to a different standard than you hold male politicians.

(1,947 posts)but let's relive one from the past Hillary said, " I know John McCain has years of foreign policy experience to bring to the white house and Obama has a speech" she was calling Obama unqualified, how dare she. Straight from her mouth. I enjoyed helping you relive the past statements of Hillary. I accept your thanks in advance.

(340 posts)I will actually LOSE rights. My state just passed a law making it legal for private and public employees to discriminate against me.
Meanwhile, all you privileged blue state leftists who will never face the sort of discrimination LGBT people do in Mississippi can run around attacking the woman who WILL BE our nominee and saying stupid things like #BernieOrBust. Well, my gay and trans friends actually have something to lose. And I am beyond tired of privileged folks like you and your reckless demagoguery.
