Occupy activists launch “Battle of New York” to fight Clinton machine, anti-Sanders bias

http://www.salon.com/2016/04/08/grassroots_revolt_against_hillary_occupy_activists_launch_battle_of_new_york_to_fight_clinton_machine_anti_sanders_bias_in_belly_of_beast/

Enter Operation Battle of New York.

It is the name of a new campaign launched by the editorial groups of The Indypendent and The Occupied Wall Street Journal, left-wing citizen journalist publications that have served as important voices for American social movements for more than a decade.

“We can expect corporate media to do everything it can to prop up Clinton and ignore or mischaracterize Sanders and the increasingly broad and diverse movement that supports him,” Operation Battle of New York writes in the description accompanying its Indiegogo campaign.

“But we don’t have to leave it there. Independent media can tell another story.”

The idea the activists have is to subvert, even “supplant,” mainstream media outlets in the days before the April 19 primary. They plan on creating, editing and printing 500,000 copies of a special edition, bilingual, broadsheet newspaper with the kind of compelling coverage mainstream media outlets rarely touch. And they are going to flood New York with the publication in the week before the primary.

An editorial team has already been formed, and has been working on the publication for weeks. Production began on April 7, and is only going to accelerate in the coming week.

In the first five days of their Indiegogo campaign, the group has raised approximately $8,000, with almost 200 backers. And they say this is just the beginning.

The publishers of The Battle of New York have a lot of experience in this territory. Their guerilla media campaign is based on the ones they helped lead during the Occupy movement, along with those in the 2003 protests against the Iraq War, the 2004 protests against the Republican National Convention, the 2014 People’s Climate March and today’s Black Lives Matter movement.

It's time to bring the revolution to the masses.

Newspapers are far more accessible than Internet streaming.

This is the sign we are looking for.

The story Bernie told about his distributing pamphlets
in Chicago comes to mind. He put them on posts, and
a policeman following him took them down.

Remember?

I am so happy to see Occupy pop back up. Was wondering what had happened, and now see they are on the rise and getting in the game. Bernie is why they rise now.

Occupy can do a world of good and this idea of a paper being distributed is a great idea.

One of the problems Occupy had was there was no leader who could get the focus focused. Bernie does that and he does so in a way that few in the movement have a problem with. His being an independent feeds that and of course his opposition to Wall Street is in congruence with Occupy.

After just watching a rerun of todays 'Hard Ball', where the least biased person on the panel was Tweety Bird himself, the absolute MSN bias is not even trying to hide itself.

I hate Mathews. I think his only real contribution to society is the John Fugelsang "audio skit" of Mathews, where he does an imitation of Mathews interviewing three guests, where he introduces his guests, introduces the issue, asks each quest a question and doesn't let the guest say anything before he starts answering the question himself. Then Interrupts himself to go to the next guest, asks them their option, and gives it to them himself, then interrupts himself again to introduce his next guest ... and so on ... until he signs off with none of his guests actually saying a word .. it's brilliant, it catches the essence of Mathews bullshit and distils it down, down into a fine and expensive manure.

Anyway, Mathews sucks and should retire is what I'm trying to say.

But tonight, he had a panel of three: Someone from the Daily News; That lying stooge Caphart; and Some woman from The Guardian (I think, that's what it said?)

The Daily News guy, I have no idea what the hell he was on about. Must have been some New York insider stuff, but whatever it was I tuned out and I don't have a clue what function he provided to that panel

The Woman from The Guardian, she mostly seemed unaware of history at all, I tuned out on her early as well, she made stupid claims and a few dismissive insults toward Bernie, but mostly they could have just replaced her with a sign saying "I'm not going to say anything that CapeHart isn't already saying".

Capehart of course is the real villain of this story, a dirt bags, so obvious that even Mathews looked embarrassed (first reason I think he was the least biased) ... he even tried to (relatively mildly) call him out (the second reason he was the least biased) on their bias.

IIRC, Capehart started into the now debunked claim that Sanders couldn't answer the Daily News questions. Mathews called him out on that and Capehart just made some sort of inarticulate nonsense argument about 'Bernie should have known the answers no matter how stupid the questions.

Capehart looked a bit embarrassed and pissed when Mathews called him out .. anyway, they went to break, and when they came back I assume Mathews was told by someone to not disrupt the talking points, and Capehart was allowed to make explicit unfounded claims and some pretty nasty insults toward Sanders, with no one saying a word, and Capehart even looking like he was staring into the camera when he insulted Sanders, calling out all the people who dared call him biased because of the PictureGate .... "Look at me, I'm on the TV and I can tell all the damn bold-faced lies I like and you can't stop me".

I hope there's a copy of tonight's Hardball on line somewhere, because someone should really make a video montage of Capehart's "best moment".

I am happy to see the younger generation SO engaged!

Sanders has given hope to many people in the millennial generation, 70 million people, many of these people will fade away if they feel they are not represented. They see the flaws in our two party system and how most people are not getting ahead.

It is even more imperative that we do our share while Sanders takes 'a few days off' to attend the conference in Rome for inequality.
