Someone forgot to tell David Gergen

That the race is tied and Romney is "surging":

Coming off clear, back-to-back victories in the final two debates, President Obama has now shored up his campaign, and -- given what appears to be a superior ground game -- is again an odds-on favorite to win.

Coming into a 14-day scramble, Obama can now rely upon an additional weapon in his arsenal: a strong ground game. Because it drove away any potential challengers in the Democratic primaries, his Chicago team not only got the jump on the GOP in advertising this past summer, but also constructed what appears to be a superior field organization.

In the pivotal state of Ohio, for example, the Obama campaign has three times as many offices, often captained by experienced young people. By contrast, a major Republican figure in the state, throwing up his hands, told me that the Romney field team looked like a high school civics class. The Romney team heartily disagrees, of course; we'll just have to wait and see.

4. I expect to see a lot of the same media championing this Romney surge to change in final week.

Then they'll switch to the Obama is winning EC meme once it's obvious Romney can't overtake him... They need to keep this up as long as they can..

and I think it's starting now. I saw a couple of pieces today that were admitting Obama is looking strong going into the final stretch. Not all of them, but more than we've seen lately.

None of these news celebutants want to get caught on the wrong side this election - they will look like fools. I expect to see them slowly admitting out loud what they have known since the end of the Democratic convention.

The President will have four more years in office.

8. Gergen hasn't joined in recently with the CNN "Robme is the Messiah" crowd.

Maybe he's been talking to his former boss, Bill Clinton. Bill would have some great things to say about Obama.

Compared to some of the others at CNN.

Gergen not only said that Obama won the last 2 debates, but that he is still the slight favorite to win re-election.

That's in contrast to John King who said Romney has the momentum and will be the next President based on current trends.

I think Gergen is usually pretty fair. I don't always agree or like what he has to say, but I think he holds to his own standards and isn't going to just go the way of the opinion of all of the others easily. I like to hear his insight, even if I don't happen to agree with it.
