New Yorker - "The Bernie Bro Code"

The Berniebro is someone you may only have encountered if you’re somewhat similar to him: white; well-educated; middle-class (or, delicately, “upper middle-class”); and aware of NPR podcasts and jangly bearded bands.

—The Atlantic.

http://www.newyorker.com/humor/daily-shouts/the-bernie-bro-code

1. A Bernie Bro must #FeelTheBern twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. A Bernie Bro’s newsfeed must reflect this.
2. Under no circumstances should a Bernie Bro allow the delegate count to cock-block Bernie Sanders from the White House.
3. Even if a Bernie Bro claims that he is “just gonna leave this here” when posting a Bernie-related Op-Ed on social media, he must also be prepared to reply to all comments that seem to refute its pro-Bernie sentiments in any way.
4. If a Bernie Bro goes two weeks without sharing that picture of Bernie sitting with Martin Luther King, Jr., his Bernie Bro-ship shall be subject to scrutiny.

We had "dont tase me, bro", that helped turn "bro" into a term of fun and mocking... and then we had the rising popularity of using "dudebro" as an insult on platforms like tumblr..

I dont think it carried the same meaning in the lexicon back then.

prefers to hear himself talk about the poor and oppressed and women's issues and issues involving people of color more than listening to or hanging out with truly poor or truly oppressed people, or women or people of color who consider themselves liberal and may have slight differences of opinion on how best to effectuate positive social change. Doesn't vote in local elections or state or midterm or general elections for a variety of reasons which may include getting high.

Based on experience online I'd add: prefers to lecture people of color who are undecided or emphasize the importance of voting in November over actually reading up on the history of racism as a basis of this country's wealth or examining anything wrong with himself and publicly admitting that perhaps someone else may know more about the situation than himself. Incredibly defensive about posts like this one, to the point of absurdist denial that he may have anything to learn about anything. Perhaps improves after being reminded of it a hundred times (better than a right wing fanatic who never gets it but worse than a liberal who gets it after the first few or ten times). Brags about not voting in general or local or state or mid-term elections because he enjoys claiming moral superiority and actually thinks it will persuade others.

Please note I'm not speaking of any of our fine liberal contributors to this site.

18. Three New Polls Confirm That Bernie is Winning the Latino Vote Nationwide.
Sun Apr 10, 2016, 11:40 PM
Apr 2016

LOL, remember when everyone tried to unskew the exit polls showing Bernie winning the Latino vote in Nevada? Welp…

Reuters has him up 56-40 among Hispanics.
http://polling.reuters.com/#poll/TR131/filters/PD1:1/dates/20160201-20160405/type/overall

PRRI/The Atlantic poll has Sanders up 49-48 among Latinos.

Latinos voters were essentially divided 48 percent for Sanders and 47 percent for Clinton in the poll conducted March 30-April 3 by Public Religion Research Institute in partnership with The Atlantic.
http://www.nbcnews.com/news/latino/poll-latino-voters-near-evenly-divided-over-clinton-sanders-n552531

And finally, Marist/McClatchy has him up TWO TO ONE among Latinos.

Sanders, an independent, edges Clinton nationally thanks to solid support from several groups. He leads 76-23 percent among those 29 and younger; 63-31 percent among Latinos; 62-32 among independents; 58-38 among the unmarried; and 56-42 among liberals.
http://www.mcclatchydc.com/news/politics-government/election/article70202867.html

So not only is Bernie winning black voters under 30, but he’s winning ALL Latinos.

As a white male, professional with an advanced degree that fits pretty much every point this satire is making, except that I grew up on a tobacco farm and worked for everything I have...your statement is utter bullshit. I own the fact that I'm a successful white male who happens to support Bernie, but I'm not a sexist/racist/bigot. I try my best to listen first and talk second. So, your cute little comment might play well for some, but it's insulting. Bernie's supporters aren't just white or male or the fictitious nerds who play D&D and live in their mother's basement.

trying to accomplish and that is to give women and minorities access to a political revolution

Maybe this election has gotten to grim for me to see humor anymore, but that line just bugged me as to reek of "only the white man can help the women and minorities". The classist cr@p the Brits did to the other nations and we did to our native population. I give this article one Queen...

Yes, I am more commenting on how I am less amused because of how this season has basically made us all short fused to any thing since everything has been used as an attack. My favorite example was the story about, sure Trade deals have hurt us, but does Bernie not know that moving jobs back to the US would hurt the worlds poorest and least powerful? Really a f@cking sweatshop argument? You ant to help the world's poorest, arrest the Bangladeshie owners and managers that allowed all of their workers to burn to death, and arrest the inspectors, the people in the US that approved it, and hold them all accountable for murder. Oh and while you are at it, pay them a living wage and put them in safe and fair working conditions.

10. See, a Bernie Bro knows that it’s because of just this type of anti-Bernie propaganda, perpetuated by the mainstream media, that Bernie is constantly getting grilled on his lack of foreign-policy experience even though, as every Bernie Bro knows, BERNIE WAS THE ONE WHO DIDN’T VOTE FOR THE WAR IN IRAQ!!! I mean, a Bernie Bro doesn’t get why, just cuz he’s a “white” “man,” we’re supposed to bar Bernie from being a part of our political system. Bernie Bros understand what Bernie and his Bros are trying to accomplish and that is to give women and minorities access to a political revolution and a Bernie Bro is SORRY NOT SORRY FOR REFUSING TO APOLOGIZE FOR IT.

It is an insult.
It paints me as some kind of Sexist pig whose only reason for NOT liking Hillary is because she is a Woman.
Never mind that casting a vote for Elisabeth Warren would be a dream to me.
Never mind the fact I was all for Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act , and am a strong supporter of a woman's reproductive rights.
Never mind that my Best friends are Women.
Never mind everything I've ever thought and done.
I am a Bro,Bro.
I'm this mythical frat-boy who has zero respect for women and I have an extensive library of "Bro's before Hos" , and "Who Farted" shirts. I am against Hillary because she uses the potty differently than I.
It has nothing to do with her Horrible voting record and Hawkishness.

I had a post hidden in a thread that I feel was totally undeserved.
and Now if I wanted to I couldn't post a thread right now.
