Really smart stuff to be asking about a Presidential candidate who has SS protection.

The first impression is the one that sticks, not tendentious explanations.
She should have just left that little "issue" alone.

I see it's only the non-NYers who think this will be an issue in NY. Everyone actually in NYC knows what she went through is not unusual - AT ALL.

You don't get it - YOUR problem is that she did look like a real NYer who have trouble with the cards daily. That's what you fail to understand but NYers don't because it happens ALL THE TIME. We'll sure see next week.

You're right, it's not at all an unusual occurrence.

But it was still a good source for a joke. It was a funny visual, almost like Bush trying to open that door. You could look at that old Bush video and laugh, even though you know it is a stupid, meaningless thing that could have happened to anyone.

But I think people are missing the real point, of what makes the whole thing particularly stupid, and thereby that much funnier. This was not a random event that just happened to occur in the course of her day. What the heck was she doing there in the first place? Trying to score a ridiculously dumb point against Bernie.

She wanted to show that she's the "real" New Yorker because Bernie's memories of New York were that you needed a token to get onto the subway. (Especially ironic for someone who became a New Yorker as a carpetbagger in the first place, and for someone who spent fewer years living in New York than he did.)

THAT is what makes it both funnier (her plan backfired) and also stupider (there are real issues to discuss, and this is the kind of nonsense stunt she was trying to get press on)... and the fact that it was a stupid thing to do in the first place also makes it funnier.

a different sense of humor than most. People of means take the subway all the time when there is traffic or something. This only seems to be a thing for non NYers. Whatever.

To me, that's what makes it funny even to a New Yorker who fully understands just how poorly those turnstiles work.

And honestly, if Hillary truly was so familiar with the subway (as you imply, by saying New Yorkers of means take the subway all the time), she would have known to expect just what happened. From my own experience, I would say you get through on one swipe less than half the time, and even a second swipe won't do it maybe a quarter of the time. But maybe Hillary and I just don't have the touch.

Where was she going? That really wasn't featured in the press I saw.

For all I know she got out of her scooby van hopped on the whatever line and obliviously proceeded to illegally glad hand for two stops. It wasn't like she was mobbed by the people on the train, it came off more like she mobbed the people on the train.

Then what? Back in the scooby van? Stopped for a nosh at a deli?
