Clinton Foundation Donor Got Huge OPIC Loans, Now Faces Corruption, Not Properly Vetted:

Clinton Foundation Donor That Got Big OPIC Loans Now Faces Corruption Allegations

by Peter Flaherty on Mon, 04/11/2016

Another Clinton Foundation donor with ethics problems received a loan from the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) while Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State. This time, the dollar amounts are gargantuan, and the recipient is at the center of a corruption scandal in Pakistan.

According to a report in the Washington Free Beacon by Alan Goodman, a Middle Eastern investment firm called The Abraaj Group has contributed $500,000 to $1 million to the Clinton Foundation. Abraaj owns and manages a utility company named K-Electric in Pakistan. That country’s former oil minister, Asim Hussain, has been arrested for providing illegal favors for K-Electric and harboring Islamic terrorists in hospitals he owns. From the article:

The investigation has not impacted the U.S. government’s ongoing partnership with the Abraaj Group, which dates back to at least 2012. That year, the Overseas Private Investment Corporation—a federal agency that dispenses corporate loans under the guidance of the U.S. State Department—selected the Abraaj Group to manage its $150 million Middle East investment fund.

Two weeks later, the Abraaj Group co-sponsored the Clinton Global Initiative’s annual meeting.

Last October, the Overseas Private Investment Corporation again pledged up to $250 million to help fund the Abraaj Group’s K-Electric operations. The announcement came less than a month after the Sindh Rangers, a Pakistani law enforcement agency, reportedly issued a 12-page report accusing Hussain of passing illegal favors to K-Electric.

Ken Boehm, chairman
of the National Legal and Policy Center, a government watchdog group, said the situation raised questions for the Overseas Private Investment Corporation.

“By law, OPIC is required to conduct due diligence efforts on any potential recipient of financing, especially matters involving millions of dollars,” said Boehm.

Yet more and more cases have emerged in which recipients of OPIC financing with ties to the Clinton Foundation were not properly vetted.

One major Clinton donor, Claudio Osorio, is now doing 12 years in prison for defrauding OPIC in a $10 million financing deal.”

yet another new one:

the Clintons pushed for a $10 million loan from the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) to Clinton Foundation donor Claudio Osorio, who now sits in a federal penitentiary, serving a 12-year term for fraud.

The loan was rushed through and Osorio was never required to provide an audited financial statement.

The loan was supposed to be for building houses in earthquake-ravaged Haiti, but Osorio instead used the money to fund a lavish lifestyle and to buy off politicians.

Documents uncovered by the National Legal and Policy Center show that Bill Clinton lined a up well-connected law firm to represent Osario with OPIC, and Hillary Clinton went to bat for the project within the State Department.

OPIC is technically an independent agency but submits its budget through the State Department.

Whereas Osorio’s Ponzi-like schemes have generated headlines, and even an American Greed episode on CNBC, the role of the Clintons' involvement in the OPIC loan has not been previously reported.

Hillary Emails Shed Light on Clintons’ Role in Loan to Fraudster

by Peter Flaherty on Thu, 09/03/2015

The latest batch of publicly-released State Department emails provide more evidence that a $10 million loan from the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) to Clinton Foundation donor Claudio Osorio was made as a result of pressure from Bill and Hillary Clinton.

The loan to a company named InnoVida, owned by Osorio, was supposed to be for building houses in earthquake-ravaged Haiti, but Osorio used the money to finance a lavish lifestyle. Osorio is currently in prison for fraud. OPIC is an independent agency but submits its budget through the State Department.

The Clintons’ efforts to push the OPIC loan were uncovered by NLPC’s Ken Boehm and Tom Anderson. They spent many hours at both the state and federal courthouses in Miami going through documents related to the InnoVida case.

The emails also illustrate how close Clinton supporters like Jonathan Mantz have run a lucrative influence-peddling operation. Mantz was Hillary’s 2008 finance director, and today plays a key role in Priorities USA, a super PAC supporting Hillary. Mantz was a lobbyist for InnoVida. Alana Goodman of the Washington Free Beacon today details Mantz' campaign on behalf of InnoVida, as revealed through the emails.

or should I say, have their license RENEWED if HRC gets the nomination. They've always owned the GOP, and funding HRC's campaign was pure evil genius.

The only way the 1% loses is if Bernie wins. I can't believe anyone who identifies as a proegressive or liberal would support anyone else.

to constantly scoop up money deals around the world for herself via the Foundation.

There's no way to say that she was a good Secretary of State. That is simply a lie. She was incompetent and corrupt. That is an epic fail.

Why then, would we hand her a higher office? This is why I hope she gets indicted, to simply stop this madness.

Even if she doesn't get indicted though, her candidacy is going nowhere. The Repubs will not have it. As soon as she's nominated all of the many stories like this one will be all over the news and it won't stop.

The National Legal and Policy Center (NLPC) is a right-leaning 501(c)(3) non-profit group that monitors and reports on the ethics of public officials, supporters of liberal causes, and labor unions in the United States. The Center files complaints with government agencies, legally challenges what they view as abuse and corruption, and publishes reports. The NLPC is described as conservative in nature.[1] The NLPC's current president is Peter Flaherty.

Peter Flaherty worked for Romney, and his job was convincing the GOP that Romney was right-wing enough.
The gesture, which caught her off guard and earned her admiration, was the deft diplomatic handiwork of Mr. Romney’s unseen but crucial weapon this campaign season: his liaison to the Republican Party’s right wing, Peter G. Flaherty, a former homicide prosecutor who keeps a statue of the Virgin Mary on his desk.

for their massive "donations"and , "speaking fees" for access to OUR government and OUR resources. the idea that she could end up in the wh unfettered should make us all shudder.

i hate to say this, but the only thing that could prevent her from literally selling our country piece by piece to overseas interests is a balanced government.

yes, a balance government. its the only thing short of impeachment that will stop her.

if she is the nom i am seriously considering my downticket choices, and i will leave it at that.

Is the Clinton Foundation the Dulles Brother’s Sullivan and Cromwell?

by JOHN STANTON
CounterPunch, APRIL 15, 2016

EXCERPT...

As Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton instigated and legitimized the overthrow of the Honduran government in 2009 not all that unlike the 1954 Guatemala Coup engineered primarily by CIA Director Allen Dulles, supported by Secretary of State John Foster Dulles, and with the glowing approval of President Dwight Eisenhower.

In a March 2016 interview with Amy Goodman on Democracy Now, Greg Grandin, a professor of Latin American history at New York University, discussed the fallout from the 2009 Honduran Coup. “I mean, hundreds of peasant activists and indigenous activists have been killed. Scores of gay rights activists have been killed. I mean, it’s just—it’s just a nightmare in Honduras. I mean, there’s ways in which the coup regime basically threw up Honduras to transnational pillage. And Berta Cáceres [a prominent Honduran activist assassinated in 2016], in that interview, says what was installed after the coup was something like a permanent counterinsurgency on behalf of transnational capital. And that was—that wouldn’t have been possible if it were not for Hillary Clinton’s normalization of that election, or legitimacy.”

In an April interview with Dana Frank, professor of history at the University of California, Santa Cruz, on Democracy Now, Frank indicated that President Obama had basically turned over Central and South America to Hillary Clinton. Frank then said this: “I think it’s really about the U.S. pushback against the democratically elected governments of the left and the center-left that came to power in Latin America in the ’90s and in the 2000s—Venezuela, Bolivia, Argentina, Ecuador, Chile, El Salvador, all these countries. And Zelaya was the weakest link in that chain. He, himself, did not come out of a big social movement base at the time of his election, certainly since the coup. And I think they were—the U.S. was looking for a way to push back against that. There’s a very important military base, U.S. military base, Soto Cano Air Force Base, in Honduras. And Honduras has always been the most captive nation of the United States in Latin America. So, I think they were testing what they could get away with. And they got away with it. It was the first domino pushing back against democracy in Latin America and reasserting U.S. power, in service to a transnational corporate agenda.”
