Will he announce at the debate "Sorry! - but I have to leave early to go to the Vatican!" in order to make it'?

There's NO WAY he can make it there for his allotted time so he will obviously be canceling. That is today's spin. At least they've dropped the fake concern over his egregiously inept staff and possible health risks.
