There Have Been a Lot of Silly, Pointless DU Manufactured Controversies This Year

But this one with Bernie's trip to the Vatican takes the cake.

His leaving NY to go there might be a slightly interesting angle from a political strategy/expectations standpoint. But all this other stuff is plain stupid.

economic justice for all people that he will take 3 days out his own campaign to attend a conference on that subject.

This debacle is second only to his having ended an interview after the reporter's time was up. http://www.democraticunderground.com/1280151508

I have no idea how his family will be able to endure the ignominy. My heart goes out to them in this moment of shame.

and his participation on issues like this is one of the key reasons I voted for him.

IMO, neither side should try and turn it into a political kickball.

4. Progressive love for the Vatican, just because they invited Bernie somewhere, is baffling.

They're still anti-women, they're still anti-gay, they're still anti-contraception.

And if Bernie goes all the way over there and fails to mention any of that, then he's a coward.

10. Obama went twice as President and didn't talk about those things, Bill Clinton as President made one

trip there and three meetings here with JP2 and not a word about those issues. Just last year, Francis came to speak in the Congress and virtually everyone on DU was thrilled with that. He smeared LGBT rights and Pelosi wept in delight.

So what's different about Bernie? He's already pointed out his differences with the Vatican when speaking of this trip, Bill Clinton never did. Obama sort of does, but not really.

Anyone who gives a shit can look up Bernie's address to Liberty University and Hillary's address to Rick Warren's congregation and compare how the two approach such conservative crowds. It's all a matter of public record.

Benie: 'Thanks for inviting Jane and I. As you know I support gay rights and women's reproductive rights.'
Hillary 'Bill and I just love Rick and Mrs Rick and he guides us on our faith journeys and God obviously blesses this Church'.

Look it up. If you are not evangelical, it does not look good for Hillary.

Republicans using the same set of smears being employed by Hillary folks today. It just highlights who is who in the whole thing.

Just gives something that is basically a positive for Sanders more visibility than it would have otherwise.

Snipping about it just looks petty.

I don't give a shit about ANY of it. The idea that the RCC gives a shit about poverty is hypocrisy.Lack of reproductive choice and lack of access to reproductive services are major contributing factors to poverty.

"Mother Teresa was not a friend of the poor. She was a friend of poverty. She said that suffering was a gift from God. She spent her life opposing the only known cure for poverty, which is the empowerment of women and the emancipation of them from a livestock version of compulsory reproduction.” ~Christopher Hitchens

Oh, plus they sit on a mountain of wealth.

8. There was a time I took DU seriously, believe it or not. LOL

I realize now it's just a message board, NOT a discussion board. It is NOT a think tank. It is NOT a substitute for reality, or anything that happens in reality.

I find it still has some value (news, left-leaning discussions), so I linger on, but not nearly as active or enthusiastic a member as I once was.

Roundabout way of agreeing with you: DU manufactures many fake scandals - Popegate is one, yes - thus, I tend to laugh at the Outrage-DU-Jour.

Cheers!

11. he's being called out for his own statements
Mon Apr 11, 2016, 01:41 PM

...intimating that the Vatican had invited him an audience with the Pope.

He furthered that initial report by affirming something he knew wasn't true. It turns out that what he, his campaign, and supporters were waving in everyone's face is what amounts to a forced appearance in a minor academic conference, not a meeting with the Pope, as he claimed - not even an invite from the Pope.

The president of the academy hosting the conference put it well in her initial statement when she explained that whatever political benefit Sanders hoped to get, he's making a fundamental mistake expecting that using the Vatican as a political prop would reap him benefits in NY or anywhere in this election.

Sanders Pander Fail.

Fair game, and newsworthy in this election.

It really is a classic.

We're just awaiting the quintessential "Right Fucking Now!"

It's coming though, I can feel it.
