2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThe high-school-like hubris of "Disqualify, Defeat and Unify"
So about the Clinton Camp's new "Disqualify, Defeat and Unify" strategy against Sanders that was announced last week on CNN.
Anyone else appalled?
I barely have words that would reflect how destructive, narcissistic, and worst of all--presumptuous--their strategy is.
It's sorta like some crazy high-school student declaring, "I really want to be homecoming queen. And it looks like my closest competition is that really kind and decent person 'Bernadette'. So here's my plan. I will publicly mock her, make fun of her and rip her to shreds. This will go on--nonstop--for weeks. I'll publicly belittle her friends. I'll convince the school newspaper to write disparaging articles. I'll enlist my friends on social media to denigrate, slander and ridicule her. Anything nice said about Bernadette will be relentlessly attacked. What a prolonged bloodbath and mental beating it will be for weeks. Of course I'll have to pivot at some point (because I eventually need those votes!). So, I'll say some nice things; my friends will say nice things; I may even apologize...yadda, yadda, yadda. Then the skies will open, the light will come down, celestial choirs will be singing and everyone will know we should do the right thing and the world will be perfect. ...Then, all of you lucky dogs will have a new Homecoming Queen!
God help us all. That's exactly what this is like.

(20,709 posts)Meanwhile, Bernie actually calling Hillary unqualified, and lying about "quote/unquote" is no big deal.

(24,411 posts)attack would be "disqualify." Hillary spent the entire WEDNESDAY sauntering around NY, discrediting and "disqualifying" Bernie. When Joe Scarborough asked Hillary three times if Bernie was qualified, she refused to answer. Then the WaPo issued an article, "Hillary Clinton Questions Whether Sanders is Qualified."
So when Sanders DARES TO respond you guys run off the rails with your, "OMG Becky!! He's lying!!!!! Liar!!! Liar!!!"
Seriously, people.
It's high school all over again, but with campaign managers.

(20,709 posts)On the other hand, Bernie himself -- not his campaign, and certainly not a reporter quoting an anonymous source from his campaign -- not only call Hillary unqualified, but also blatantly lied with his "quote/unquote" statement.
There is one, and only one, candidate who has called the other unqualified. Bernie.

(24,411 posts)We were put on notice that this was their strategy. And, by God--we were treated to a week's worth last week, weren't we?
Yep. Clinton never said, "He's unqualified." She just ripped into him and said that his ideas weren't very well thought out and that he wasn't a real Democrat. All day long she tore into him.
And when asked if he was qualified, three times---she refused to say yes.
Games. Crazy games she plays. But she has you guys to put a sparkly spin on her third-rate malarky.
She may have a long resume. Qualified is one thing, but her horrible decisions (on everything from Libya to being a sellout Wall Street pez dispenser for the rich and famous) make her unsuitable for the job.
Bernie isn't saying anything that the rest of us don't all ready know.

(12,629 posts)to state it publicly for everyone to hear is a bit idiotic. It will be interesting to see how she will accomplish this, should she be the nominee.

Notice she said this stuff while accusing the Bernie campaign of negative campaigning (talking about her history as a war hawk and minion for banksters?)

(24,411 posts)"Disqualify, Defeat and Unify" approach that's the problem.
I thought I made that incredibly clear.
I don't have a problem with a hard-fought primary. In fact, I think it's been too sedate. Sanders so much as tries to draw contrast between himself and Hillary and her entire campaign has a nuclear meltdown, "He said he was going to run a positive campaign!! That Bernie Sanders is a liar!!!"
What I find so unbelievable is thinking that you can treat millions of people like shit and then all will be unified--just because you so planned it that way for your beautiful self.
I think it's sick.
