Man with Downs responds to Ann Coulter

I’m a 30 year old man with Down syndrome who has struggled with the public’s perception that an intellectual disability means that I am dumb and shallow. I am not either of those things, but I do process information more slowly than the rest of you. In fact it has taken me all day to figure out how to respond to your use of the R-word last night.

I thought first of asking whether you meant to describe the President as someone who was bullied as a child by people like you, but rose above it to find a way to succeed in life as many of my fellow Special Olympians have.

Then I wondered if you meant to describe him as someone who has to struggle to be thoughtful about everything he says, as everyone else races from one snarkey sound bite to the next.

Finally, I wondered if you meant to degrade him as someone who is likely to receive bad health care, live in low grade housing with very little income and still manages to see life as a wonderful gift.

Because, Ms. Coulter, that is who we are – and much, much more.

cry also....Why can't people learn to get along in this world.

What amazes me, is the people that cause the most trouble are the ones that "live by the good
word of the Lord". They are the ones that seem to want to fight the wars....take my neighbors for instance. I think they go to church about 3 times a week and twice on Sunday. Good little baptists...don't drink..or smoke...or do anything fun...

But all they can watch on tv is FAUX news and they got their Romney and 3 other signs in their yard, oh, yes, one is for Aiken of Missouri. educationed..wife is a teacher....and yet....they don't get it...

When anyone has chlldren and grandchildren I don't see HOW they can believe Romney and Ryan and all their followers are right....

God Bless this young man for standing his ground and speaking his mind. It would be an honor to know him!

"No one overcomes more than we do and still loves life so much."
That probably makes no sense in Ann Coulter's universe. Well said, John Franklin Stephens.

Coultergeist will say "It was just a joke! Can't you lamos take a JOKE???"

That is the SOP of all the repigs - haters to a tee. "I was only JOKING!"

Their deep & unrelenting hatred comes from their unending fear of African-Americans, and how America now (somewhat) treats blacks equally. It translates into a bitter hatred for America, which all repigs share.

He is indeed a better person than I.

He is a spokesman for Special Olympics. He participates in Special Olympics as a golfer, skier and swimmer. He teaches a three year old Sunday School class. Last weekend he gave an acceptance speech for an award his mother received from her alma mater. She is suffering from ALS and can no longer speak. Ann Coulter will never ever achieve as much as my nephew has. She is pure evil.

Why do people pay so much attention to her when there are so many wonderful, warm, loving and beautiful women?

Think of Michelle Obama. She lives her love for her husband and her children and her mother. And you can see what a vibrant, good person she is.

Meanwhile, Ann Coulter is just spewing hate at everyone. Why is she on TV or mentioned on DU? She has no talent, no personality, and she isn't pretty or even good looking. Why does she get so much attention?

She's Mitt Romney, with a dick.
