Where is the list of Verboten?

Just curious... because in the few days I've been posting here I've seen some new members posting on fears they might have, questionable logic skills, or just looking for some reassurance. And out 2 out of the first 10 replies seem to revel in castigating them in some variation of: "TROLL!", "You're a Trooll!", "Why did you post that shit!?", and other ad hominem.

So is there a list somewhere?

Or do some people just try to make up the rules as they go?

Oh, and, if this post reminds you of what you do and offends you? Too Bad. Get over yourself.

Just asked to clarify something--wanted reassurance-- got "TROLL"!! AS if! I've been a loyal, liberal Democrat my entire life. Would love to compare my voting record to those who accused me of being a troll.

especially in the last few weeks before election.

and only in the rare occasion (like Bernie Sanders or Angus King), another party who will caucus with the democrats in the senate when the dem candidate themselves cannot win and that keeps the republicanlibertarianteaparty candidate from attaining office.

(like should have happened in Florida when Rubio took office.)

they rules are right on the main page
someone will be able to supply the link.

I've been here since Bush stole the first election. And this surfaces every election. I do feel sorry for the newbies, because they often bear the brunt of the 'troll scorn' because DU gets infested with trolls that try to post every bad poll they can find, every negative story, and often do the "OMG I AM SO NERVOUS I"M GOING TO PUKE!!!" posts. Because it's so prevalent, and because so many on DU are such smartasses, many seem to have taken a challenge with it, to see who can be the smart one that outs a troll first.

Sadly, many new people come here because they ARE worried and concerned, because of what the media has been pushing and the bullshit polls that a lot of new folks don't know are worthless. So it's sort of a bind for new DUers.

The best I can suggest to all newbies. Don't post negative stuff.Spend your first weeks here posting interesting things, commenting on threads that interest you, and read a lot to see which polls are sources are bullshit (like don't post anything from Fox, FR, or Gravis Marketing.) In the ranks of DUers there are people here who have been enlisted by the GOP to demoralize the Democrats, happens every time. But they get found out, after posting negative post after negative post. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten private messages from other DUers lately, that say "Omg, did you read xxxxx's post? they are a total concern troll." No one is asking people to be completely oblivious to the challenge in the next two weeks, but if you're posting stuff that's negative 24/7 and OMG WE ARE DOOMED!! you'll get spanked by the group. Hope that helps.

Politics 2012 (Forum): About This Forum

Statement of Purpose

A forum for general discussion of United States politics, campaigns, and elections, at all levels of government in 2012.

I do not see where this forum is designated as being exclusively to electing anyone. I get it that there is definitely a liberal bent. But this nebulous proclamation of purpose needs to be laid out in a more accessible area, linkage, or something...

Democratic Underground is an online community where politically liberal people can do their part to effect political and social change by:

Interacting with friendly, like-minded people;
Sharing news and information, free from the corporate media filter;
Participating in lively, thought-provoking discussions;
Helping elect more Democrats to political office at all levels of American government; and
Having fun!

I'm just noting that, since you're busy telling those of us who have been part of this community for five, seven, ten YEARS how we should behave in our own community.

Remind me never to invite you to my house. You'd probably start rearranging the furniture and attempting to discipline my kids within five minutes of coming through the door.

Read my first post, I typed:

"Just curious... because in the few days I've been posting here..."

I thought the words implied that I have only been here a few days... 6 to be exact. Thanks for the heads up. And yeah, I'm glad I won't be invited to your house. It appears if I ask a question you don't like you will be quite rude in answering it.

It just seems to me that what many profess to despise in the opposition, seems to be ok to be bandied about by some members of your community as appropriate etiquette.

And yet, rather than point me to a link within this site that clarifies this golden rule of "from what is in the rules-the boards purpose is to elect DEMOCRATS in all offices", you tell me that my pointing out the rudeness of some individuals is now also within the 'forbidden zone' as well.

Where is this "rule"

The purpose of this forum is officially stated as:

Politics 2012 (Forum): About This Forum

Statement of Purpose

A forum for general discussion of United States politics, campaigns, and elections, at all levels of government in 2012.

So, yeah... When did the official purpose of this forum change? And where is the link for us newbs to follow to this new forum purpose?

Seriously, you've received some good feedback here. After being here six days it's premature, to say the least, to chide those who have been here for years. Giving you the benefit of the doubt, I'd look forward to you dialing down the scolding. At least till you've been here awhile. If you maintain it, though, realize that you will probably be suspected to be a troll.

Just sayin'. Stick around.

And how big the clique is. They can use the f-bomb, n-word, anything, and get a pass.

If they catch their 'enemies' using the the same stuff. The alerts start flowing.

There is no list. It's all guess work.

Eh, no biggie. I just wanted to point out the duplicity.

I actually kind of like the worry wart posts. Inevitably someone comes along and lays out a well reasoned reason to not worry. There was one the other day... Total brain fart on who it was, but they laid out a very strong argument, boasted on bookmarking the thread, and made a great case for the election. Then there are the repeated pleas to 'get out the vote', and all in all it seems to calm down the nervousness but keeps enough of it in the air to get people to actually get out and vote.

With what appears to be a majority in registered Democrats, it truly is a wonder that Republicans were able to get so far entrenched within our government. I hope 2010, 2011, and 2012 stay ingrained into the public psyche. It is a good allegory on complacency. I voted in 2010 and I was shocked at the emptiness of my polling place.

I say let the nattering naysayers ask their questions. it will keep the fire lit on the backside of those who do not want to see civil rights chipped away in some ho hum off year election. What the republicans have been doing for the last couple years has been despicable. But the truth is, they never could have done it without the complacency of the American voter.
