2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumJimmy Carter doesn't think much of Hillary's time as SoS
says John Kerry cleaned up her mess.
Now, Carter is setting his sites on Hillary Clinton specifically. Her actions (or lack thereof) as Secretary of State got Carters attention, and he wasnt afraid to air those grievances to Time Magazine. The ex-President said that Hillary really didnt do much to create peace in the country, as one would hope the Secretary of State would strive to do, at the very least.
Carter gave this statement via a phone interview for Time Magazine:
In this occasion, when Secretary Clinton was Secretary of State, she took very little action to bring about peace. It was only John Kerrys coming into office that reinitiated all these very important and crucial issues.
Carter said that John Kerrys work in the Middle East is notable and that he has great admiration for the Secretary of State. Mr. Carter says that he and Kerry correspond through email fairly regularly. The ex-President says he enjoys hearing what Kerry thinks about certain subjects, but did not elaborate on the content of those subjects.

(4,762 posts)What peace did Carter achieve? His Israel deal collapsed as soon as he left office.
Cal me a cultist if it makes you feel better. But you'll be calling Hillary Madame President in January.

(8,839 posts)Jimmy Carter is not "owned" and is thus free to speak.
Democratic pols risk their careers to state the obvious much less nuance and support the status quo.

(4,762 posts)Great man, lousy at the job, lasted one term and got very little accomplished. In fact you could say his term's foreign policy record was a damn disaster.
So what makes him the expert on effective diplomacy on behalf of the state? He didn't do much of it himself until he was in the private sector.

(3,714 posts)he would have stayed out of the Ukraine mess.
And he should have gotten rid of the neo-cons infesting the State Dept. that Hillary failed to purge. The ones she inherited from Bush.

(50,304 posts)I've always wondered, after seeing her in action, if the POTUS wasn't working on the "keep your enemies closer" theory. At least she wasn't in a position to bad mouth him as SOS.
