(56,582 posts)I mean, VA maybe, but that would only really apply to servicemembers wounded at the Pentagon. Even with a clearance you don't just go read stuff you don't particularly have a need to know.

You're defending this? People died, they want answers. And until he's in a position where he could ACTUALLY give them, he does NOT need to read them. Because He wouldn't be able to TELL anyone yet.

(10,559 posts)They were sent to Congress in 2002. After receiving the report AT THE TIME he made the CORRECT response and voted AGAINST the Iraqi War Resolution.
Hillary received the same report and voted FOR the IWR.
The implication is pretty clear - one read it at the time, the other didn't.
Fourteen years later, Bernie is being asked if he has "read" (specifically) the recently "declassified" sections. He is answering truthfully that he has not. There is really no point to doing so. He has known the content for FOURTEEN YEARS. He knows what Bush and his enablers did. So do you.
He is not in a position to do anything about it. YET.
baldguy
(36,649 posts)And calling for the declassification of something he hasn't read, and thus does not know the content of is the height of irresponsibility.
IdaBriggs
(10,559 posts)we were discussing the recently declassified sections of the 92 page report sent to Congress dealing with the fact that there was no justification for the Iraq War.
Now I am thinking you are talking about the recently declassified information on how the Bush administration stymied investigation into Saudi involvement?
Apologies if I confused the two! If I did, I am going to return to "it was 15 years ago and not a lot anyone running for President can do about it at the moment - everyone paying attention knew about it years ago."
This is not to minimize the importance of the "proof" but faux outrage means nothing unless someone is in a position to do something and President Obama is that person at the moment.
Unfortunately, for reasons we do not know, he is not pursuing this (that I have heard about).
The Saudi system is very different than ours - I do not pretend to understand the intricacies of their family and dynastic policy issues. All I can say is "what a mess!"

Income inequality is his focus (he's right) and the other things in the grand scheme of things are afterthoughts to him.
At least that's the impression I have.

as a cudgel to invade Iraq with. Clinton voted for it, and read literally NONE of the intel reports about the situation before condemning 30,000+ servicemen and women to death and maiming. This is a nonissue.

(2,023 posts)The Bush Admin kept these "un-redacted" pages in a secure vault, with something similar to a "need-to-know" clearance to view them.
as previously stated, Sen. Sanders doesn't meet that criteria, BUT Sec. Clinton has seen them...hence my question
