The Most Pro-Hillary Bernie Sanders Endorsement You’ll Ever Read

By Sally Kohn

Sunday afternoon, in front of almost 30,000 people in Prospect Park near my home in Brooklyn, I endorsed Bernie Sanders to be the Democratic nominee for president of the United States of America.

During my announcement, my 7-year-old daughter Willa stood by my side on the stage. You see, Willa supports Hillary Clinton. And that’s great! As I said in my remarks:

“Willa wants Hillary Clinton to be president in large part because she wants a woman president. So do I. And make no mistake about it, I think Hillary Clinton is an exceptionally qualified and dedicated public servant and would make an extraordinary president in shepherding the 90 percent of issues on which I agree with her.”

And some people, certainly not everyone, but some people in the audience booed.

Which, to be completely honest, was one of the reasons I hesitated in making an endorsement in the first place—the sense that I would be aligning myself not only with the wonderfully progressive Senator Sanders but his often shockingly vitriolic supporters. Listen, I can sit around and critique Clinton’s positions on key issues as much as the next leftist. But I’m also honest enough to acknowledge where our visions overlap and praise her when appropriate.

I happen to think that Senator Sanders is 100 percent realistic about his goals for our nation, but his supporters are completely delusional if they think Secretary Clinton is evil. We can think Bernie Sanders is the better candidate without thinking Hillary Clinton is bad.

So what do you think DU?

For me, I think there are many here that have gone to far painting Hillary Clinton as a clone of George W. Bush.

I love Bernie, I voted for Bernie in my primary and I'm satisfied with my vote. But Bernie supporters scorched earth tactics are very off putting. So are the snarky Hillary supporters who echo PUMA attitudes from 2008.

By all means, discuss and debate and critique the candidates. By all means vote for the one you think is best and most likely to carry the liberal and progressive agenda forward. But do we have to vilify our people while having that discussion?

All this booing and shit is OK at a football game. You can boo if the other team scores, makes a good play, walks on or off the field, or just because you feel like booing. But save the booing for sports events. Listen to the candidates and what they have to say, even if you don't like it.

They too confused the "demes" with politics. Sports teams are actually one of the few things that will cause a large scale riot in modern America.

DNC 1968, Detroit 1947 and 1967, Chicago 1919.

None of which were sports related, all were political and/or racial.

A fair number fall in the class of Police riots such as East St. Louis and Fergueson Mo. Short lived violence with sports fans are more common late 20 the century current day, and can occur when the home team either wins or loses. Then there are the unique contrived situations such as the Brooks Brothers riots. It depends on how much publicity the participants and viewing audience gets press.

Heck, when Prime Minister Koizumi of Japan was making his case for Japanese involvement in the Iraq War ("Demo, Iraq wa taryou hakai heiki wo motteiru!!!" "But Iraq has weapons of mass destruction!!!&quot , he was roundly booed in Parliament, and rightly so.

But that doesn't mean that people who think Clinton lies and can't be trusted, that she's bought off by corporate special interests, or that she's a war-mongering Kissinger protege are delusional, fuck you very much (directed to the author, not the OP).
