Bernie Sanders received a warning from the Federal Election Commission, citing problems with his campaign's February finance report.
The letter states the report lists amounts of contributions, receipts, expenses and disbursements that "appear to be incorrect."
The letter also cites possible impermissible contributions that exceed the allowed limit per election cycle ($2,700 for individuals) along with donations that come from outside the United States and from unregistered political committees.
The FEC sent the letter Thursday to the campaign asking for more information regarding the report filed Feb. 20. The letter warned: "Failure to adequately respond by the response date noted above could result in an audit or enforcement action."
The Sanders campaign has until March 31 to answer the FEC's request.

(765 posts)There would be breathless calls for her to be indicted and accusations that she is crooked. When Bernie does it, it's just ZZZZZZZ, don't care.... Don't you find that the least bit hypocritical? Guess not.

(42,862 posts)... people are being encouraged to LIE about their voter registration status in order to gain access to a provisional ballot (which is a CRIME) it's pretty clear to me that there are no lines which dare not be crossed.
The-end-justifies-the-means, and burn-it-down are two sides of the same coin.

(50,273 posts)The date line is April 18. The last line says "Sanders campaign has until March 31 to answer . . . ". The attempts to slur Bernie's reputation are certainly getting muddled.

(643 posts)Bernie is running a grass roots campaign, bypassing all of the Clooney-type fundraisers (yes I get that that one was for dems in general), super pacs, and such. All of the campaign finance crap that Hillary has promised to get rid of (after this election of course), yet takes advantage of now. And it's Bernie who is accused of fraud? The whole campaign finance system, whether it's technically legal or not, is quite simply fraudulent. I can't imagine our Founding Fathers would look on at this circus and nod approvingly as billions in dark money flow in from billionaires and corporations. It's shameful. And that many Clinton supporters don't have a problem with it...that's part of what's wrong with the party.

(2,888 posts)there are bound to be some that are outside the legal requirements. The FEC document gives methods and timelines for making corrections. Hyperventilating people should find a hyperbaric chamber instead and take some chill time.
