(47,486 posts)that begins on Friday sundown and ends Saturday sundown. The "safe place" is to move during the Sabbath, carry items without violation the commandment of not working on the Sabbath.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eruv
is a ritual enclosure that some Jewish communities, and especially Orthodox Jewish communities, construct in their neighborhoods as a way to permit Jewish residents or visitors to carry certain objects outside their own homes on Sabbath and Yom Kippur. An eruv accomplishes this by integrating a number of private and public properties into one larger private domain, thereby avoiding restrictions on carrying objects from the private to the public domain on Sabbath and holidays.
The eruv allows these religious Jews to, among other things, carry house keys, tissues, medicines, or babies with them, and use strollers and canes. The presence or absence of an eruv thus especially affects the lives of people with limited mobility and those responsible for taking care of babies and young children.

Don't whine about millennials if Hillary gets the nomination and loses the general. This attitude you're displaying here has been showing up all too often with the Hillary crowd.

(47,486 posts)If he wins the nomination and loses the general because many of his young supporters won't bother to vote in November.
Actually it is worse. 30% of the Sanderistas said they will not vote for Hillary, but only 15% of Hillary supporters say they won't vote for Sanders.

(29,718 posts)of registering before November's election. It is a well known fact that 20 somethings often find other things to do rather than do the unsexy thing of getting in a line and casting a ballot, or worse, bothering to register to vote. I assume that civics classes don't teach about voting anymore. Of course, poli sci is really boring too.

(29,718 posts)You seem to have been able to handle the hard work of registering and voting. But they are known to care not as much and I don't think that civics teaches voting responsibilities anymore. And I realize you are being nasty to me, but that's on you, not me.

bettyellen
(47,209 posts)allow a true "open primary" which means it is not happening today. There seems to be total ignorance of the fact that there is a process they could have been participating in all along. I'd like the people incorrectly taken off the rolls to be able to vote- but also hope they realize the way to preserve their right is to show up for the smaller elections. And to lobby for the needed changes.
This was a last minute attempt to de-legitimize an election because they knew it was lost. It's bullshit, and I am glad the judge is not having it.

(12,232 posts)Is that the same Williamsburg that has had reports of polling station problems?
http://bedfordandbowery.com/2016/04/problems-at-east-williamsburg-polling-station-just-one-of-many-headaches-for-new-york-state-primary-voters/
By the time we arrived just after 12:30 pm, the community center section of the NYCHA public housing complex was buzzing with voters, most of them elderly and many of them Spanish-speaking. Hines, who sat behind a table where she was helping check voters in and verify their registration, informed us that the late opening, Wasnt nobodys fault here.
According to the site coordinator, Dwain Woods, when the volunteers arrived at 5 am this morning, they found that the site was locked. Housing didnt open the building, he said, referring to NYCHA. According to Woods, someone finally showed up with a key and volunteers were eventually able to open up the polls by 7:30 am. When asked if the experience was frustrating he said, Yes, but now its smooth.
Unfortunately what might seem like a small snag could have potentially put out dozens or more voters. And across the city, there have been a number of problems. Theres the potentially confusing ballot design thanks to antiquated New York law, and the issue of broke-ass machines. Ugh. On top of that, New York has some of the most restrictive voting laws in the country (including no Election-Day registration), potentially disenfranchising a huge number of otherwise totally eligible voters for really no good reason at all.
