2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWhile I still can...Bernie or Bust!!
What may be, may be...but not with me.
I will not vote for a candidate who is:
-Corrupt
-Supports regime change
-Does NOT support universal health care or tuition-free college education
-Enables fracking
-Does not support a carbon tax
-Supported every god-damned trade agreement that has gutted our workforce
-Is "open" to a ban on 3rd trimester abortion
The list goes on...
I have settled, and settled, and settled.
I will not be brought to heel again.

Senator Sanders has motivated a significant percentage of voters. Those of us who support Bernie are well aware that we have a lot of hard work ahead of us. We're no longer willing to accept the status quo, and we don't want a lying corporatist war-monger in the White House -- particularly one with the spectre of indictment hanging over her head like the sword of Damocles.

(8,702 posts)Based on trend lines, you are attempting to elect one of the most untrustworthy and unfavorably candidates in modern times. Her numbers hit their lowest since they started tracking her numbers in 2001.
Getting elected will be hard enough. Down ticket will suffer dramatically. Midterms will be a nightmare. We'll be out in the cold for decades.
Beacool
(30,250 posts)If anything, no one polls as unfavorably as Trump.
angrychair
(8,702 posts)To my point. if you feel she is going into the GE, on the heels of a two-term Democratic president, with that trend line, you should be very worried. Especially if your under the delusion that your competition is tRump. He has very little chance of winning at the convention. Everyone already knew he would win NY, especially after what Cruz said. His prospects going forward are a lot less in his favor. The competition is Cruz. Maybe even Kasich as his VP. Her national polling against them, which does matter in April, is pathetic.
Smaller Dem turnout and almost zero turnout with Independents will not carry the election against Cruz/Kasich. No coat tails will will brutalize us in state and national down ticket races. We will be out in the cold for decades.
At the end of day, if it is her, it's a no win situation unless her and Sanders can make nice and she can shift to the left and give up her center right policy positions.
CruzinNCrying
(17 posts)They are banking on Trump. The delegates are only beholden to Trump on the first vote which he probably will not get. Cruz has been putting his delegates in line for the the second round of votes. Be prepared for Cruz unless the GOP steps in. Cruz is glide past Hillary, especially with all the civil lawsuits heating up. Bernie has not brought up her server debacle and lack of care for national security but you can damn well bet the GOP is.
This march for "It's my turn"Hillary is really bizarre. The Dems have an opportunity to bring in a flood of fresh blood with Bernie and they are like "No thanks, we like it here in our underground bunkers"...Go Hillary".

(961 posts)It's the Sander's supporters who have talked shit about Clinton for months on end but then say they'll hold their nose and vote for her that deserve no respect. Basically they just announced to the world they have no backbone and that all the things they claimed they were against weren't really all that important anyway. Oh, they'll hide behind "lesser of two evils" nonsense, but truth is they're spineless and will be ripping Clinton the moment she's sworn in.
But you seem to at least have a backbone and are not willing to compromise, and for that you deserve recognition.

(10,493 posts)I've been a member of DU for 12 years, and this election cycle has turned this place in to one that accepts republican talking points and antisemitism as common place. That's what Third way politics brought us. I was an early Obama supporter, when it was race issues and dod whistles. I gladly drove to Iowa to knock on doors for him, and was very disappointed that he brought Hillary on board, but accepted that this is how parties dealt with close/negotiated races. But sorry, I never signed on to vote for her. No dice on that one, and DEFINITELY NOT this time around.
I will work to see Bernie stay in as long as possible to continue to push the issues that are important to me as an FDR Dem, and for any similar dems on the down tickets, but I'm done with Third Way politicians who have sucked the blood from our party.
The one sustaining joy I am relishing in, is the fact that the Millennials rival Boomers, and more are coming of age every single day. In 4 years, we will have raised our Army - and enough earth will have been scorched, that the floodgates will swing wide open. #revolution #feelthebern
