2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumIt's over, Bernie! OVER!!!!!
As he withdraws to the comfort of his Vermont abode, sans media, I hope he's about to come to the same realization that everyone else already knows. It's time for him to withdraw from the race.

(300 posts)After all, the American working class hasn't had a real presidential candidate to vote for in my lifetime. What gives them the right to think they deserve one now?

"In a speech to supporters, in which she declared that "victory is in sight" in the race for the nomination, Clinton reached out to those who had backed Sanders, saying, "I believe there is much more that unites us than divides us."

(1,729 posts)He gave up a two days of campaigning in New York to beg (and I mean really beg) an audience with the Pope and now he's back home in Vermont? There's some writing on the wall here.

(8,333 posts)he needs to stay in the race to get as many delegates as possible.
Look, the odds are against him. I get that. But he needs to stay in the race and get as many delegates possible because it gives him more leverage to represent the interests of his supporters. This race is not just about the nomination. It's about starting a movement for fundamental change to get big money out of government.
Hillary can start campaigning for the general election. No one's stopping her. But Bernie's still got a job to do for his supporters.

(30,613 posts)If they were as confident as they want us to believe, Hillarians would not be desperately trying to get us to give up.
Resistance is NOT futile.

(1,249 posts)You can wait to anoint the chosen one AFTER everyone has the satisfaction of voting. In my case for BETTER candidate.

(1,048 posts)Sorry but even though he won't get the nomination, he has more than made his case and owes it to his supporters to go all the way until the last state votes. I just don't see the need for him to drop out.

(42,862 posts)That is his selfishness. That is his vanity.
That is his contempt for the party, and contempt for the ACTUAL and LOYAL party members.
He needs to go. He needs to withdraw. He needs to do it now.
Not next month. Not next week. Not tomorrow.
But NOW.

(10,336 posts)get them, it certainly will be over- for her, for us as a party, and for me as a Democrat. Already making exit plans. There will be a rather grand announcement locally. and then? Then I will work against her. As hard as I have during this primary. That woman has no business anywhere near the White House. Oh, and I will be asking for those transcripts from someone else campaign. Count on it.

(3,111 posts)than Cruz is behind Trump, and that race is still alive and well.
CA has twice as many delegates as New York.
Hillary may very well not reach the guaranteed nomination through pledged delegates, and then it's the convention that decides.
I'm in it till the convention, and perhaps beyond. You see, there are principles here we're fighting for, and we (or at least I) don't beleve that Hillary is capable of carrying them out or has any intention to.

(99,710 posts)He has no realistic path to the nomination.
There are five primaries next week, all closed, and the polls indicate he is trailing in four of them.

(42,862 posts)I get what you're saying, but at this point, it's no longer about Bernie and what Bernie wants. He needs to do what's BEST and avoid the temptation of vanity and his own self-interests and pride.
