(13,776 posts)He has every right to, for one thing, and being told to sit down and shut up because he's not Number One is exactly what he has been protesting, on behalf of all of the 99% who aren't at the top and aren't given respect or a voice.
Having said that, I admit that Hillary is almost certainly going to be the nominee. And I'm pretty sure Bernie doesn't want to see Trump elected and watch the world burn. So IMHO it would be a good idea for Bernie to change his focus from Hillary to the system as a whole, and to the whole economic and social injustice behind not only elections but tax codes and penal codes and everything else that benefits the people at the top at the expense of the majority below them.
And even more than that, if Bernie is no more than a piece of gum on the bottom of Hillary's shoe, it would really behoove her to speak more generously of him. For one thing, it would simply be the graceful thing for her, as the eventual nominee, to do. And for another, becoming the Democratic nominee is of no use to her if she doesn't become President, and the personal tone this primary has been taking is really alienating a great big chunk of the party. (Bernie is not blameless in this, I admit, but frankly there aren't the practical [general-election] repercussions when he criticizes her than when she criticizes him.)
I just think that it'd be better for the Democratic party for things to be less ugly. We need to look like grown-ups compared to Trump and the Republicans. Both Bernie and Hillary would have to step up for this to happen. And while differences of opinion are important and deeply felt, their supporters should be less personal in their attacks on each other, too. I'm going to hide now.
