There's a statue in Philadelphia...

...commemorating a fictional boxer who won it all despite getting the shit kicked out of him.

We are not defeated, we are not deterred, we do not "Have a sad".
My God, what fucking dolt came up with that phrase?

In Philly this summer the story becomes reality.

In the birthplace of democracy we will behold the victory of democracy over oligarchy,
of fairness over corruption, of love over war.

This July the party of my grandparents will become the party of the people once again.

We'll see you there.

I'm looking forward to seeing Hillary nominated there and set on her path of becoming the first woman President! A suitably historic backdrop for a historic occasion.

and am multi-generational from here. And that damn statue was moved all over the place before they finally stuck it in its current position at the base of the steps of the Art Museum that I drive by every day to go to work.

I think the naiveness of the assertion that "the birthplace of democracy" leading to a "victory" over "oligarchy", is that it misses the historical reality that a member of the "oligarchy" founded this city (see William Penn - I walk past the site of his former house, now a tiny national park, every day to get to my car). I.e., he received a "gift" from King Charles II, of a large swath of land later named after him in his honor (Penn's Woods - Pennsylvania). The only thing that tempered him was that he was a Quaker - anti-war and against conspicuous consumption.

The so-called "democracy" when this city was founded, excluded MY ancestors. It was founded by wealthy white male land-owning & slave-owning oligarchs - FOR wealthy white male land-owning & slave-owning oligarchs.
