2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI've never in my life seen anything as delusional as this.
The Sanders supporters post-NY who can't accept the reality that NY finished the Dem race are just baffling.
Instead of saying "Yep, I guess that's it considering only a handful of good-sized states remain, most of which we'll lose," it's turned into creating these artificial thresholds that Hillary had to perform by, which ignore the fact that Bernie is in a huge hole.
Well over 2/3s of the country has voted. He's down considerably. He'll be down even more after next week because of a big loss in Maryland. He's down in California and even if he wins it by a small margin it doesn't change anything at this point. There aren't enough other states to make this thing happen for him. It's over. Deal with it.
You're not going to convince the super delegates to abandon a candidate who is the choice of the voters.

(55,894 posts)just as Sanders' end-game has been.
Furthermore, Clinton was MUCH closer to Obama than Sanders is/has been.
Finally, Clinton and Obama were both DEMOCRATS. Sanders is unaffiliated and has trashed the Democratic party his entire life and has continued to do so during his noxious campaign for POTUS. Super Delegates aren't switching.

(14,255 posts)Thinking Independents and millennials are going to bother turning out for a candidate who is for war and fracking and the TPP and tightening the grip of private insurance on health care. Shoot - I am a Boomer, and I won't go for that either. Not Democratic values. And those things I listed HURT the millennials. They know Hillary will slide greasily even more to the right, on a trail of money and Third Way power.

Or you do something else..... It is your vote.

(1,788 posts)If Bernie can turn this around, well good on him, but if he can't what do you think should happen? Throw out the will of the voters because some people are angry the vote didn't go their way. I keep seeing you all say this, but I'm not sure what you want.
djean111
(14,255 posts)If the will of the voters is to elect a Third Way hawk, then of course that will happen. But not with my participation, or with the participation of any of the millennials I know. They don't play the kabuki theater thing.

(14,255 posts)A candidate who is for war and fracking and the TPP and against single payer - these things all affect them adversely. They will vote down-ticket, if they vote at all. Hillary, to them, is SOS, all right - same old shit. Seriously. No other way to put it.

(4,775 posts)from the corporations that have captured it, that's what we want.
And I, for one, want to vote for my candidate in a meaningful June primary.
After that, should Hillary prevail, which I concede is likely, us Bernie supporters will each have to decide how to proceed to get what we want.
Some want to continue as a wing of the Democratic Party. To be honest, the party is pretty hostile to what we believe in, so many of us are having a long hard look at what is the best path forward. Planting seeds in infertile ground is not usually good strategy. We'll see.

Your post borders on ridiculous, as well as delusional.
And make no mistake, you will need all the Sanders supporters you can muster if she does get the nomination.

(46,179 posts)I knew before any candidate announced that I wouldn't be likely to get an acceptable Democratic candidate on the ballot for POTUS in November '16. I knew I would fight like hell, with everything I've got, to try to get one there. I knew I wouldn't give up until the convention.
And I knew that I'd be walking after the convention; that this was the last time I'd ever play the party game.
What's "delusional" is trying to pretend that the division in the party created by neo-liberals hasn't grown too wide to bridge, and that what you are hearing from that far distance on the other side is evidence for that. Apparently, that divide is so wide you can't understand what you're hearing.

(45,319 posts)Also, in 2008 Hillary had already won CA at this point. And Bernie did better in NY than Obama did. Which is what I said. And it's the fact. It obviously chaffs you. Hence the personalized nature of your rhetoric. Tired of all of that out of your cohort. Very tired.

(45,319 posts)fact I stated. Bernie did slightly better in NY against Hillary than Obama did in 2008. And that's all I said, for which you told me all about me. I'm talking about candidates, you want to talk about me and that's not really how it should work.
So to repeat my statement:
In 2008 Hillary also won NY, 57.4% to 40.3% for the eventual President Barack Obama
Hillary won 139 delegates, Obama won 93 delegates. Bernie did a bit better in NY against Hillary than candidate Obama did.
It's all facts. And all I said was fact. So talk to me about what I said.

(34,845 posts)Now that was delusional. The Sanders Phenomenon is sort of the same thing -Sanders had no specifics, did not work well with others and failed to specify anything wrong with his opponent. All he had were soundbites. They were good soundbites, important information, but it wasn't enough.

Clinton and her supporters believe that alienating 40% of their own party is a good idea. With it, they believe they have no need to appeal to independent voters, and have in fact spent the entire season expounding on how worthless they are. They then demand and threaten these voters, if they express reluctance to sign on to the Clinton train. At the same time they are trying to defy history by squeezing a third consecutive presidential term out of a single party, by fielding a candidate who has no achievements, many failures, and energizes the opposing party more than her own. An entire year has been spent wallowing in bigotry and right-wing teabagger promises - Bernie's a disloyal Jew, his supporters are white supremacists, health care is communism - but somehow clinton supporters beleive that they will have a landslide victory in the GE.
That's the delusion.
Good luck!
