2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSo Let Me Get This Straight....
Hillary has overwhelmingly won black voters both men and women, latino voters both men and women, Asian voters both men and women, white women, unions, civil rights icons, gun control groups, environmental groups, lgbt groups, and damn near every other demographic in America, but she's supposed to pander and bend to the will of white men who are threatening to not vote for her?
Hillary is already unifying the party and base.

(36,221 posts)I don't really care which.

(19,877 posts)Demographics show her overwhelmingly winning the votes of people who are typically marginalized and disenfranchised, yet its not good enough for a certain demographic who controls the entire societal hierarchy. They need more pandering?

(3,859 posts)And Bernie has a very diverse coalition. He is inclusive. Except for the 1 per cent, because they are our enemies. We don't need more Goldman Sachs criminals in the federal government.
JaneyVee
(19,877 posts)And us vs them mentality. That is the definition of exclusive.

(3,859 posts)And where is the purity test? Many people support Bernie because of personal tragedy. Whether is a vet who was used by the American war machine or a person who was financially wiped out by catastrophic illness. That is why Bernie has had unprecedented success despite every institutional disadvantage, because the American people are getting less and less happy about their living conditions over time. Oligarchy is unsustainable.
I was born a Democrat, but I will not die one unless Bernie succeeds. The Democratic Party is literally creating financial problems for my family and many others.

(55,894 posts)You may have been "born a Democrat" but your posts read as if you simply decided to show up and vote every so often and not participate in the real world of party politics.
Because if you had engaged in the democratic process at the grass roots, you'd know it's a long hard slog and requires patience and COALITION BUILDING.
Ideologues have no political party. Being an outsider enables them to whinge and point fingers and never do the actual WORK required. Like Sanders, he's a perfect example. No real solutions.

(1,359 posts)The privilege all extended to white progressive men too, in fact. And obviously they're just as upset about losing it as their right-wing counterparts.
Sanders-sanctioned misogyny and bigotry has reduced the Left to a shameful version of its former self.
And yes, women Sanders supporters and minority Sanders supporters, you ARE part of it, by not standing against it. You're Peter Parker letting the robber run by you without action, so he can kill your Uncle Ben later on in the movie. You're the opposite of Batman. (Just to keep it balanced between DC and Marvel, and throw in a Community reference.) There would not be a space for such commentary by some Sanders supporters if every other Sanders supporter wasn't silently allowing it to happen on a regular basis, or worse, upvoting it at every opportunity.

(30,481 posts)It is a centuries old demand. The current revolution being undertaken by women and minorities no longer stands for that old school bullshit.

(643 posts)Polls clearly shows that Sanders would do better in the general election vs Trump and Cruz. Perhaps this is because 40% of voters are now independent. You know, those guys that the party in many states feels they should exclude from being able to participate in primaries?

(4,465 posts)Is that those who have probably experienced some kind of discrimination firsthand , multiple times, be they women or people of color and certain other groups of males , vote for Hillary in droves.

(50,414 posts)for a woman in 2016 just like she did in 2012. She's progressive woman and feminist who has supported reproductive rights, equal pay, etc. She's also a Socialist but not an ideologue.
She's far from self-centered and is intellectual enough to see that the system is corrupt and refuses to go along with the crowd of purists that demand she sell out her beliefs and principles for a corrupt candidate because she has a (D) after her name.

(12,958 posts)Same with the millennial vote. We are told over and over that our votes are not wanted. Is this true of you too?
Does arrogance and condescension come with an off switch, or is it a permanent condition?
