2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSenior Clinton Aide Tells Reporter: Fuck Bernie
We kicked his ass tonight, a senior Clinton aide told me Tuesday night. I hope this convinces Bernie to tone it down. If not, fuck him.
(Note: Politico, apparently sensitive to the political classs sense of propriety, rendered fuck as f‒‒‒ in the original report.)
The outbursta fairly rare one, at least for staffers of both candidates during this years Democratic primarywas apparently inspired by Sanders campaign manager Jeff Weavers appearance on MSNBC last night, during which he insisted that Sanders would win the Democratic nomination, one way or the other:

In New York lots of voters disenfranchised. It was rigged plane and simple and I don't care who thinks I'm off it...it is rigged throughout this election season. It has been for many elections. This country needs to get corruption out of politics once and for all.

The Sanders campaign can't pretend to not know what the effect of their campaign rhetoric has in enabling the republican campaign. In fact, Sanders has benefited in this primary from millions of republican ad bucks spent in almost every state against Hillary, right alongside of the Sanders money and often with identical messaging.
It's his ass if he wants to continue the negative campaign - which, notably, began right after he got caught with his hand in the Clinton's data cookie jar - and he'll have no one but himself to blame if the Clinton camp hits back, and hard.
Personally, I'd just ignore him and focus on Trump and the rest of the republican opposition. He's still busy running against Hillary, and she's busy running for president.

It penetrated the public conscience and people began to say, hey, we have to do something about this too." Hillary Clinton, inexplicably, March 2016.

(12,233 posts)Shoot, I'm sad to say, I'm old enough to remember the 1992 elections. I was maybe 14? I remember the chi he getting heavily in bed with the Republicans and seeing my own church change in front of my eyes; so much so that I left at 16 due to the massive changes is such little time and the hypocrisy they engaged in. One of the main reasons that effort of the "moral Rroublicans" took off was during that time during primaries and GE, there were already scandals popping up... Paula Jones was a household name long before Lewinski. But in general, people did well in the 90's since the bubble/ burst cycle was at a high of bubble. But NAFTA drastically changed many peoples lives and the idea of trade/ tariffs/ personal national protections for the quality of life in America... Plus the grand idea of a 401k instead of a pension was a new "cool" idea to foster on the American people. Guess what the two times of great concern were back in Clinton years for middle class concerns (and mind you many of these middle class, my parents were doing so much better than today's so called "middle class" . The #2 concerns were health care costs and the cost of higher education. They are still at an unsutainable path of increasing prices, while people's wealth has actually declined on avg. Good paying jobs seems to always be on everyone's agenda every year.
Where are we today in 2016? Talking about the same, the same issues that were so key in handing the Clintons the White House the first time... Did they improve anything on those two issues? And every person who isn't lying to themselves, has to admit the WTO and NAFTA has obliterated Main St economy. Guess who supports the TPP? Guess who is willing to cut social security? Guess who wants to continue punishing our youth for accessing higher education that betters society? Guess who isn't going to touch anything about the ACA?
I truly think her main objectives in being placed by establishment into the White House is to ramp up the war in Syria, make social security funds accessible to Wall st, get the TPP in place, and not touch the other items.... And she will argue she has to because "Republicans".
Could you even imagine the discussion we'd be having if Elizabeth Warren had decided to run, and run like Bernie? OMG! Not only a woman finally in the White House, but a progressive voice, championing the people. Hitting back at Wal St.
Honestly, the fact that Bernie has generated the movement he has is electrifying.
And please, someone, tell me what she is running for? Not what polls tell her is popular to say. Not that she's Obama again, because she's not (she's to the right of him). Why is it she wants to be President so badly that she's rigged her life, the DNC, all her Pacs, buys up all sorts of political power houses, pre-buys up media sources? Why burn up the Demcratic Party? Why run while under FBI investigation?

(3,040 posts)Please tell me which other "most liberal" congressmember ever proudly lists Kissinger as a close friend. For those of you that don't know, Kissinger makes Cheney look like a good guy. Also, since we are talking about when Hillary was in Congress, she was staunchly against gay marriage. How did that make her liberal. Or, how about she voted for the Iraq war and claims that she was tricked by Bush. Why wouldn't she just ask her husband because he was given daily intelligence briefings for 8 years and, I am sure, Clinton could have called one of their friends in the intelligence community if she didn't have the common sense to even ask her husband before she signed off on the inevitable deaths of Americans and Iraqis. The list goes on.

(11,785 posts)that Bernie should tone it down for the sake of unifying the party. Isn't "unifying the party" something that's the nominee's job?
merrily
(45,251 posts)Hillary and Bubba helped Obama unify--though that help certainly did not take the form of toning it down or dropping out before June 2008. However, I strongly suspect that they had made a deal for that support, covering his giving her the SOS or VP slot, her not running against him in 2012 and his supporting her in 2016, or at least not supporting anyone else.
I don't think Bernie is looking to run 8 years from now and he's been treated very unfairly. In his shoes, I think I'd sit on my porch, but I don't know what he will do. What will Bernie's endorsement, should he choose to give it, mean to his supporters? Hard to say for certain, but I did an Op about it.

(11,945 posts)They've been pushing that meme for at least a week, and this past Monday and Tuesday, NPR was pushing it very hard -- doing their part to smear Hillary's opponent prior to the NY primary (with a little help from voter suppression.)
What's sad about this is the corporate media, the MSM, is going to keep playing this theme until everyone believes it.
All we can do is correct it every chance we get on alternative media.
Lies, lies, lies -- that, and voter suppression, are all they've got.
