just a reminder of what "take it to the convention" will really mean

There is no momentum coming out of the Empire State only an even-wider gap in the delegate tally that makes Sanders's continued presence in the race seem futile. He's going home to Vermont (just to rest for a day, he says) looking like a candidate who just got pushed to the margins. When he returns to the campaign trail, he can expect to be covered as if he is realistically out of the running.
News outlets and individual journalists made the implications of Sanders's Big Apple beatdown pretty clear on Tuesday night. They've basically written him off.
...
Sanders has pledged to fight all the way to the convention, and there is no denying his impact on the race highlighted by his ability to energize Millennials and promote conversations about income inequality. These will likely remain central themes of Sanders stories.
But those stories probably won't characterize Sanders's obvious political skill and appeal as having any plausible shot at propelling him to the top of the Democratic ticket anymore. From here on out, he will be covered as a candidate campaigning for a cause, not a presidential nomination.

(68,868 posts)Nate Silver even got caught up in talking about national polls showing Sanders closing on Clinton.
Then voting happened.

(58,785 posts)every election. Nate Silver and other analysts have to factor in media reactions as strongly as voter reactions -- will some event cause the media to work to narrow the gap between candidates and how much? This writer clearly thinks the media are done with whipping on Bernie's candidacy and beating back Hillary's to make more exciting copy.
As for Bernie staying in, I hope he does but concentrates on promoting his message of income inequality and our need to take control, as well as very importantly educating the public about the critical need to defeat GOP candidates, all of whom are committed to furthering inequality.

(24,347 posts)and Hillary's top brass have spoken about Sanders supporters like they are somehow unworthy of notice.
If she'd been merely indifferent, I could have stomached it, but she and Bill have been openly hostile--and as someone who used to admire Bill Clinton, that was heartbreaking for me--to be told that I must want to tear the party apart because I didn't support its "chosen one".

I think you may be exaggerating how hostile Clinton was towards anyone other than Trump and Sanders himself.

(5,049 posts)Thanks to most states having "sore loser" laws to prevent just this thing, he would be reduced to being a write-in candidate. If he chooses to go that route he will have to depend on an ever shrinking number of $27 donations to carry on a lost cause. Even Bernie is smart enough to know that his street cred would be shot by that sort of campaign stunt. He could go from hero to zero in no time flat and his "legacy" would enter Nader territory.

(24,411 posts)Wow! If the media treats Bernie "marginally"--this is fantastic news for his campaign.
So... now reporters and pundits will stop attacking him, disparaging him, suggesting that the photo was Bruce Rappaport, constantly positioning him as the candidate who can't win and spinning his demise!
I have dreamed of this day!
You heard it here folks--the media will now treat Bernie "marginally". So much better than disparaging him and pounding him over the head 24/7 with whatever shitty talking point the Clinton camp wants in the public consciousness.
Good news everyone!!!!
I look forward to this giant leap of progress!

The sad truth is that Bernie Sanders is just a bad candidate for some otherwise good ideas.
