2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumCall it Thinner
As in what will happen to the population of DU should anyone "call it".
Asking Skinner to call it is about as dumb as asking Bernie to drop out. And that's completely asinine since Bernie is actually doing more good and progressing the issues for the party than Hillary ever would on her own.
And if that remote chance, and yes, I'll say it's remote but not implausible, that something does happen as a result of Hillary's mishandling of state secrets and illegal hiring of staff by the State Department while they were working for her, not to mention the kick-backs she gave for donations to the Clinton foundation, well guess what, the people who asked Bernie to drop out and Skinner to call it are going to be biting their tongues right off.
In other words, the fat lady hasn't sung yet. If and when we get to the convention with both Hillary and Bernie as candidates and one is chosen or until the day either candidate decides to throw in the towel, nobody should be "calling it".

(8,175 posts)Who say they won't vote for Hillary in November. I won't say support, because even if I vote for her, I'm not supporting her, I'm supporting the dem party.
I don't think such a small number can be called blackmail. I hate to see people say that, but I understand how they feel. I will be physically sickened by having to vote for Hillary, but I will still defend our country against republicans.
And we will continue to fight to change our system, so even if Hillary becomes POTUS, we won't stop fighting. She is wrong on so many issues. We need a better leader, but we might coalesce behind Bernie in some other format to keep pushing for change in our government.
We need to get money out of politics now, and Hillary has no intention of doing that. If Bernie loses it will be because of money. It will be because too many people were afraid to vote for him because of big money running our country, and too many people are afraid of him because they don't want to have to give up any of their millions.
This whole goddamn fight is about the abuse of money.

Just look at the mocking, ridicule and arrogance here leveled at the Left and then don't wonder why you fail.
nolawarlock
(1,729 posts)the amount of hate I've seen levelled against Hillary supporters here is disgusting. I've seen horrible things this entire season and, since I joined, I've been called names and alert stalked. If you have to harass people because your ideas aren't selling, maybe you should reconsider your ideas.

Unless you shut your mouth and lick her boots your written off as a misogynist or worse.
Sorry, as a person that has fought their whole life for Democratic Party ideals I am not going to let a bunch of nameless bullies and self-righteous followers tell me that someone that has been found guilty and fined for both legal and ethical problems several times over the last couple of decades, is the best choice to be the standard bearer for Democratic ideals.
MADem
(135,425 posts)Intolerance is NOT a "Democratic ideal." It IS a big tent, and if you don't like it, too fricken bad.
HRC will be our nominee, and to my mind, it can't happen soon enough. Deal with it.
angrychair
(8,700 posts)You said "intolerance is not a Democratic ideal" and then told me to "deal with it".
No sense of the irony at all.
Again, I am not going to let some nameless Internet ghost define what kind of person I am what Democratic Party ideals are, I've lived them for 30 years.
Not sure where you get off calling me intolerant while Clinton supporters on this site use anti Semitic slurs and insinuations and are using neo-Nazi websites as sources. FYI, no, saying the phrase "corporate whores" or disagreeing with HRC and her fund raising, is not the same thing.
Don't hear any concern from you about that.
MADem
(135,425 posts)Is that why you're getting all bitter and pouty with me?
It's not my fault that America doesn't prefer your candidate. His ideas are not prevailing. His attitude is not gaining converts. His supporters are pushing people away.
That's his fault, not mine. Get over it.

(814 posts)I find that funny, considering maybe not you but others in the Hillary camp seem to say "Bleep Bernie Sanders" issues or ignore them out right
How about some of those Hillary supporters listen to us and have some empathy for the pain we feel or see in others who have with crushing student loan debt or medical bills? Or throwing people in prison for using Pot because CCA and other for-profit prisons make a TON of money for those non-violent offenders.
What about the old foreign policy perspectives she seems to share with Kissinger and others which aren't just wrong imo, but downright dangerous to us as Americans. There's a saying that goes "The only reason America has never had a coup is because they don't have an American Embassy there".

(55,981 posts)this government run by the Big Money, a sad statement. I see people at the foodbank every day that only want a decent chance. Want food for their families and a decent job. And some are getting paid at Walmart or Burger King but still have a hard time making ends meet. The homeless numbers dont show those that are couch surfing on relatives and friends couches. Pickups with canopies and small motor homes are becoming homes for the poor while the Clinton family drinks their martinis and counts their Sachs of gold. I have two friends that have lost their retirements thru no fault of their own. The wealthy company execs stole it all legal and everything. I have a close relative that lost their families home to the bank. They were lied to. But I guess that's all fair in the world where greed wins out. I have young relatives, college graduates that can only find work for min wage.
I could go on but as I said, we are on opposite sides of this class war. I guess you believe in trickle down.

(5,044 posts)I do care about his DU supporters promoting GOP rhetoric against Hillary, who will be the nominee. This is not about who is right or wrong, Hillary vs Bernie. Hillary will be at the top of the ticket, attacking her does nothing more than support 30 years of republican attacks.

pdsimdars
(6,007 posts)First, that Hillary will be our nominee. Presumptuous assumption.
Second that people are promoting GOP rhetoric. . . . . really, you need to educate yourself. There is a difference between personal attacks and attacks on issues. Hillary has been doing the personal attacks and Bernie has been on the issues.
Another thing, if they can't handle Bernie, how will they ever handle Trump or some other fact free tyrant?
If the Hillary campaign isn't prepared for Bernie's attacks on their positions, then they aren't prepared for the GE. Period.
Stop whining about mean old Bernie. He's done almost no personal attacks. And Hillary is doing constant personal attacks with lies, smears and swift boating.

(6,007 posts)that was what a lot of the discussion was about, how, as moderator of the Bernie group, could they be calling for "calling it". It was bizarre.
Go read some of the thread, it is like some kind of twilight zone where it is hard to figure out what is going on. But many of the people in the thread recognized him/her and that was what a lot of the discussion was about.

(23,018 posts)that no one can criticize Hillary anymore by "calling" the election effectively over.
Welcome to DU. You may have wandered into the wrong forum for your initiation . As a Bernie supporter, you're going to need two very important things:
1. A Thick Skin
2. An ability to cope with people who don't live in a fact-based world.
If you have those two traits, you may just last here until the convention...
