2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHillary won fewer than 30 delegates last night, you call this a landslide?
Bernie will pick up more delegates once the NY counting finishes.
This huge win means she only netted 20 something over Bernie...
NY has some of the most restrictive voting laws in the US, it's the home of Wall Street and Hillary has won NY 3 times, twice as a senator, and in the 2008 primary.

(388 posts)She netted less than 30 delegates over bernie.
Bernie won over 90% of all counties in NY.
Gomez163
(2,039 posts)the GOP won 90% of the counties in the country the past two elections. Who's president?

(388 posts)those will mostly go to bernie.

(8,352 posts)unbiased sources on the delegate count, there are still 44 uncommitted delegates in NY.
Clinton got 139 and Sanders got 108.

(6,437 posts)Green Papers projected out that the last two pledged delegates would go Bernie for a final +31 but that hasn't officially happened yet.
Total pledged delegates are 247.
TM99
(8,352 posts)She got a net of 31 pledged delegates. It was not a landslide. It was not a routing. She won and she walks away with more delegates but she still has not won.
Glad we cleared that up.
Godhumor
(6,437 posts)And, yes, it was a rout for two reasons. 1) Bernie severely underperformed his target and now needs 60% of all remaining pledged delegates to just come out with the barest majority. 2) Another 247 delegates are out of the equation, which gives Bernie a lot less real estate to work with.
Mathematically, yesterday was an awful day for him.
TM99
(8,352 posts)30+ delegates is not insurmountable. It just isn't.

He'll need a lot of mystical birds to do that.

(58,785 posts)Bernie's commercial now in which he dishonestly informs America that all the superdelegates in the House and Senate are so entirely corrupt and viciously uncaring that they make speeches for $200,000 a pop in speaking fees while voting down minimum wage increases?
In case you haven't, sitting members are not allowed to take one red cent in pay for speeches. Bernie knows that, of course. He's a sitting senator and superdelegate himself. And when he returns to the Senate, he'll be eating lunch alone, which he pretty much did before too.

of 2 pledged delegates remain to be determined out of 247.
I suspect that you are often frustrated. Start with facts. It will help.

(11,605 posts)The bottom line is, our chances are pretty slim at this point. They were slim even before last night. I continue to support him but I don't see who we help by being unrealistic about his chances.
Csainvestor
(388 posts)Her chances are very slim to win without superdelegates.
She won't be able to win without superdelegates. This wasn't a resounding win.
democrattotheend
(11,605 posts)Barring an indictment or major scandal. She is the establishment. Bernie threatens the status quo that most elected officials want to preserve. The superdelegates are not going to throw the nomination to Bernie, especially if Hillary has more votes and delegates.

Csainvestor
(388 posts)How many superdelegates should he have won in NY then? 42% of them?
The reality is Hillary has over 500 Supers and Bernie has like 30.
WhiteTara
(29,718 posts)like delegates. But that doesn't mean Raul shouldn't switch according to your logic. Of course, I think that Raul should vote for his choice which happens to be Bernie.

(30,058 posts)or past elected officials, they are made up of current Democratic congressional members, state officials, governors and former officials along with the committee members. Hillary currently has 487 endorsements. She will pick up more delegates and right now Sanders needs more than 50% to complete the number of delegates, this increased last night, the incline is steep. He knows this, if he wants to stay until the convention, OK, but getting the nomination is getting out of reach.

(9,967 posts)After all the posts last week claiming he would win NY or get within single digits, it was a complete blowout. And I'm sure all those wall streeters live in the South Bronx, East NY, Harlem - where she REALLY blew him out. Such pathetic excuses, I would think you'd be embarrassed.
Hav
(5,969 posts)The way the delegates are allocated proportionally didn't result in a huge net gain for Clinton despite a big win in one of the largest states. But that also shows how difficult it will be for Sanders to catch up.
