2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHillary Rodham Clinton is making HISTORY!!!!
She is the presumptive nominee, which is very historic. The first woman in the History of the United States to be a nominee for President!!! I am so proud to be a woman right now. Also before you say I only voted for her because she is a woman is not true. I voted for he because she has more qualifications than any of the primary candidates had this year.

I'm voting for her first because she shares most of my values and goals and is extremely competent, the usual, critical reasons, but that she has already advanced women this far and will finally bring us to the Oval Office are giant steps toward our most important goal of all -- equality of all Americans. We are witnessing and participating in a great advance for all of us now and for the future.

(6,719 posts)It is history every time! Look up Women Who Ran for President -- impressive. Hillary will be the first to win.
Who was the first woman to run for president?
What woman ran for US president first? And which women have run since?

Victoria Woodhull
Equal Rights Party: 1872
Humanitarian Party: 1892
Victoria Woodhull was the first woman to run for president in the United States. Frederick Douglass was nominated as Vice President, but there's no record that he accepted. Woodhull was also known for her radicalism as a woman suffrage activist and her role in a sex scandal involving noted preacher of the time, Henry Ward Beecher. More »

I was just reading a biography of her; she was interesting. She also earned money as a financial advisor.

7-9 FBI agents. HRC has brought her criminal defense attorney up. Comey and the Justice dept have referred to it as an investigation, not a review.

(10,493 posts)Arms deals, Fracking Deals, Coal mining Deals, Water Resources Deals, Haitian Hotel Deals for donors, Low Wage Workers. Of course a lot of innocent people had to die during those wars and regime changes - probably in those sweat shops too, but I guess that's just part of contract.
These are just some of her many "accomplishments" that she worked hard on as secretary of state and proxy with Bill to the Clinton Foundation. I'd take the time to put up some more, but I am just so tired. Long day here, and I have a busy one tomorrow. Interesting things for you to be so proud of as a Democrat.
Anyway, she isn't the presumptive nominee yet. Not until she has earned the pledged delegates to claim that right. She had some trouble with that It's okay though. Bernie has agreed to take it to the convention, so they can work it out there. It should be a great night to watch.
Have a great evening. Later.

(1,495 posts)if he gets within 100 pledged delegates of 1237. It doesn't matter what the morons in the MSM say.
Kentonio
(4,377 posts)But as I posted earlier on another thread, denying Trump the nomination if he is that close will cost the Nominee 8 million votes.
There was a poll that said that 16% of Republican voters would not vote for the Nominee if the Nominee had not won the pledged delegate count during the primary. Sixteen percent of 50 million is 8 million.
Kentonio
(4,377 posts)I think those kind of polls are untrustworthy this far out. Both sides would suffer losses to their vote totals if its Clinton vs NotTrump, but I can see the Republicans coalescing around a different candidate if they can find one that ticks enough boxes in enough different camps. It's the nightmare scenario for us if that happens, the only thing that makes Hillary viable right now is the belief that the Republicans will run someone with even worse favorables. That scares me.

(1,495 posts)Bernie came just short of 100 pledged delegates to win the nomination, but the supers gave it to Clinton instead. DU would explode in rage and would probably cease to exist as 85% of people here are Sanders supporters.
Kentonio
(4,377 posts)Anything else would be undemocratic. The only exception to that would be if one of the candidates had to fall out of the race for whatever reason.

(1,788 posts)If Trump go more delegates, and they give it to someone else, I think there would be a mass revolt. But who knows.
Kentonio
(4,377 posts)I think there will be an initial revolt, but I also think they want to win. After 8 years of a Democratic White House I just can't see the party top brass casually allowing a candidate they know can't win.

(2,872 posts)For the continued corporate screwing of the low and middle classes via voting for a candidate who doesn't seem to want to restore Glass-Steagall.
For the continued corporate screwing of the earth via fracking and inefficient fossil fuels.
For the continued corporate screwing of the workforce via H-1B visas and the TPP.
For the continued corporate screwing of the entertainment business via voting for a candidate who doesn't seem to care that the media is monopolized by six companies.
For the continued alphabet soup agency screwing of we the people by voting for a candidate who supported SOPA, the PATRIOT Act, and has spoken outright on "needing a Manhattan Project against personal encryption".
I believe your vote to be unethical. It doesn't matter whether you know better or not anymore. To me, your vote appears callous and uncaring.

(30,249 posts)Hillary has a long list of "firsts", but none tops being the first woman to be nominated by a major party. Hopefully, she'll break the final glass ceiling and become our first woman president.
Here's to all the sisters who came before, from Abigail Adams, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucretia Mott, Susan B. Anthony to Betty Friedan, Gloria Steinem and every woman who fought for women's rights, including my mother.

(13,877 posts)It will potentially end up like Bill's...keeping the presidency while under the cloud.
She is a seriously flawed candidate. I'm sure the papers are already drawn up for maybe Day 2, if she accedes to the office.
Also, not my choice for the first woman president or Democratic nominee. What message are the young women getting...marry well, carpet bag into a Big State, get appointed somehow to SOS, start a Big Foundation, figure out how to get rich in office, and you, too, can earn $300,000 per speech. Oh, and don't worry about silly ethics or even laws with workarounds. Just hire the right people to do it for you.
See? It's simple. The message to young women...I did, it, and so can you.
Voila...there goes the glass ceiling, while raining glass on those further down the rungs.

It's hard to celebrate the accomplishments of others when Clinton supporters here have lived up to their 2008 reputation and exceeded it.
If she wins and takes office it would be a mile stone for women but how you get there is as important as who.
