Bernie faces Southern revolt

Bernie faces Southern revolt
Democratic leaders want Sanders to stop dismissing the South, where Hillary Clinton's wins have been powered by black votes.
By GABRIEL DEBENEDETTI 04/20/16 04:02 PM EDT

NEW YORK — An influential group of Democrats is piling on Bernie Sanders for portraying Hillary Clinton's Southern victories as a product of a conservative region that is out of step with the rest of the country’s thinking.

In a stern, roughly 800-word letter sent Wednesday via post to Sanders’ Burlington, Vermont, headquarters, a high-profile group that includes the Democratic Party chairs of South Carolina, Louisiana, Florida, Georgia, and Mississippi expresses its concern about his characterizations of the South, which they contend “minimize the importance of the voices of a core constituency for our party”: African-Americans.

Sanders has acknowledged that he didn't do well in the South. That is a fact.

He stated that he didn't do well there.

Anything suggested beyond that about black people is ugly race baiting from the Clinton campaign.

You guys have been doing this since before the Iowa Caucuses. It's grotesque.

are coming back to bite him.

Not to mention the Stockholm syndrome, Confederate states etc comments that were bandied about here all the time when the primaries were in the south.

There is no dismissing that no matter how hard they try.

We aren't out of step with a lot of the country. Take NY for example. Or Arkansas. Or Arizona. Or Illinois. Or Ohio. Or.....

The dismissal of the south is a flawed argument on every level. The concept being portrayed by the Sanders campaign isn't even based in truth. It is an attempt to marginalize the south.

Totally.

And one of the biggest voting blocks of the party as well. The bedrock so to speak.

Who could have seen that a man that has been anti-democratic party all of his life would try to break down the party, piece by piece if allowed in for this election/primary?

I think its the real reason Sanders is running..to inflict maximum damage on the democratic party all the way to the convention and to disrupt that as well.

After New York he has no shot at the nomination but still is on the attack against the person who will be the nominee. Why?

And who benefits from it? It sure as hell isn't democrats!

I do believe that was Weavers goal from the beginning. The guy is simply a low-life. I also think it is the goal of the sizable group of Paul supporters who have jumped on with him. I'm not sold yet that it is Sanders reason though the last month he has put forward one can easily make that argument. I think we will really know the answer to that about Sanders specifically in the next week or two. But you can make a really good argument considering his behavior over the last month or two.

your supporters are making into your campaign. I can't wait to read the inside story of the Sanders campaign from embedded journalists after this is over.

After Bernie suspends his campaign, the last chapter and epilogue can be emailed to the publisher.
