Factlet of the Day: Youth Turnout in New York Wasn't Much Different Than in 2008By Kevin Drum | Wed Apr. 20, 2016 12:33 PM EDT
The turnout rate among all residents aged 18-29 was up from 9.8 percent to 11.5 percent. That's a nice increase, but as I recall, Obama didn't spend a whole lot of time in New York in 2008. When you take that into account, it's hard to see much evidence here of a massive surge in youth interest caused by the Bernie Sanders campaign.

(28,270 posts)In 2008, 273,000.
You think that's great turnout in a city of 8 million or so? OK

(30,613 posts)The lengthy pre-registration requirement, combined with caging and registration-swapping at BoE was quite successful.
Thanks for pointing that out.

(28,270 posts)When its time to register and go vote the revolution has better things to do.
Its been that way forever in that age group and Sanders didn't change that a bit.

Because a loyal Democratic constituency (young people) cannot deliver victory, their policy priorities don't count.
But I thought . . .

(25 posts)My 23yo son says almost all people in their 20's register as independents,I myself was an independent til I was in my 30's and registered as a dem to vote in a primary. So I don't think that was an accurate picture of youth support. I think it's great these kids are passionate and come out and get involved in rallies. Why do people want to bring them down and mock them it's our future generation.

(28,270 posts)New York and many other states have these laws. It wasn't put in suddenly a month ago, its been like that for years.
Its your choice. You can still vote in the general election in the fall.
