Is Obama just stupid or has he sold out to the Wall Street .01% ?

TPP would never have gotten Fast Track Authority unless Obama pushed for it.

Hillary has not genuinely opposed TPP or pledged to veto TPP. Is Hillary just stupid or has she sold out to the Wall Street .01% ?

and help bind our country with others in ways most people won't even consider. I think, long-term, this and the Atlantic agreement will be very important to our capability to expand/improve health care, welfare (even guaranteed income), education, etc. We are not going to produce that income trading among ourselves.

Sure, if someone votes for it hoping to ship more jobs overseas, without the poorer countries progressing and demanding more of our goods and services long-term, then they are wrong. If the hope is to build a better world for everyone -- not just Nationalists and America First types -- then that is very Democratic.

one that would hurt Haiti worse than they already were. Would Haitians be better off making $10 an hour, you darn right. But who is going to help then get that. Certainly not Sanders and his supporters who believe America First and screw the rest of the world.

". . . . . . .Now, of course, it would be wonderful if Haitians could make far more than $3 a day on average for working in an apparel mill. But — as history shows — that requires that Haitian workers and Haitian factory managers develop the skills to do more complex things than just make a T-shirt. T-shirts are so cheap, there just isn't much profit in there to pay anybody well. Some Haitian factories do make polo shirts and other higher skill products, and they pay better. If Haiti can move up to much higher-end production — like luxury items, say, for chic New York stores — then Haitians' will make even more money.

"This has been the story of industrial development throughout the world. In England, in the early days of the industrial revolution, workers began making simple, coarse cloth and then learned and developed skills and inventions and eventually made far more complex and valuable goods. Their wages rose along with their skill. Then, New England stole some Brit technology, developed its own coarse cloth business and then learned to make higher value goods. This story, of course, has been repeated in the American South, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China. A surprisingly large number of countries that are middle- or high-income today were able to move out of pre-industrial subsistence agriculture by first adopting low-end textile and apparel manufacturing and then developing greater and greater skills.

"Part of Haiti's tragedy is that it was, once, farther down the road of industrial development than it is today. From the 1970s through the early 1990s, Haiti developed some decent, higher-skill apparel factories and even some electronics assembly factories.

"But years of political instability, misrule, and a U.S.-led embargo during Haiti's post-Aristide dictatorship all but destroyed the local industry. By the time Haiti was ready to develop its industry again in the past five years, global manufacturing technology and trade had been so thoroughly transformed that Haiti had to, basically, start all over. . . . . . ."

cheap. And there is no reason to work to defeat a 61 cent an hour min wage. 31 cents an hour when the avg cost of daily living is approx 24 dollars is disgusting greed.

Please spare me the bogus more complex skills argument. They took the factories offshore to feed the greed.

Haitian's couldn't pay enough in dues to make it worthwhile. Fact is, this is the exact reason every poor country needs more investment and jobs -- but the America First types don't care if they represent the world'd 1%ers as long as they keep theirs. We do have some folks here who definitely need to do better. But a lot of folks who are whining have no idea what it could be like if we were like most of the world. The only ones who are going to invest significant amounts of money in poor countries are corporations. That's a sad fact, but a fact. I suggest we learn how to harness them to improve our situation here and poor country's situations there.

That is exactly the problem. TPP would allow global corporations to sue America and any other country who is a signatory for "lost profits" caused by environmental regulations.

TPP would allow Big Pharms to sue for "lost profits" as a result of FDA regulations that protect consumers by requiring vigorous tests to validate drug safety.

TPP is inexcusable.
