Hillary Clinton's union problem
Teachers have yet to unite behind Clinton, the latest sign that she is struggling to lock down an important chunk of the Democratic base.

Teachers unions were among the earliest and most enthusiastic supporters of Hillary Clinton, with the American Federation of Teachers calling her the champion working families need and powerful AFT President Randi Weingarten hugging her on stage.
Hillary Clinton, a product of public schools herself, believes in the promise of public education, Weingarten declared.
The only hitch in Clintons plans to rally this vital Democratic constituency: Teachers arent fully on board. Bernie Sanders netted more money from people who listed themselves as teachers and educators than Clinton in February, according to a POLITICO analysis of FEC records.
The Vermont senator received more than 9,000 donations and raised more than $413,000 from people who identified themselves as teachers or educators, surpassing the $394,000 raised by Clinton from about 4,500 such donors during the same month.

(3,133 posts)You have already forgotten, and here you are....oh...better than having a vote problem. You bet it's better! And I'll bet you have NO idea what it's like to be refused at a polling place, when you ARE a voter.
Democrats always put that first. But you must be part of the 'new' democrats, that are ready to fold into the 'new' republican party.
I won't be joining anyone with thinking like this. You would think you were talking about someone worth despising. You, are counter productive.

(6,007 posts)On one show they had a list of all the Organizations that endorsed Democratic candidates.
They listed the Union, the Candidate they endorsed and the METHOD of endorsement.
What does "method" mean?
EVERY organization that endorsed Hillary it was the LEADERS who endorsed her.
EVERY organization that endorsed Bernie it was done by polling the MEMBERSHIP.
Get it? The few people of the ESTABLISHMENT endorse Hillary,
the actual PEOPLE who are MEMBERS endorse Bernie.
Yuuuuuuge difference!

(9,748 posts)Everyone was laughing and cheering on the protestors when the one Republican (a fireman) said, "but there is no way I could ever vote for Hillary either."
All but one person in the bar echoed that sentiment. The one person who did not was visibily shocked. He knew these guys for decades, and they had always voted the party line. He was also, unlike the others, a union rep.
There is a huge disconnect between union leadership and membership this election.
Of course, they have completely different reasons for their decisions. Leadership is pro-Clinton so they can have access to possibly sway her actions and at least mitigate the damage she will do. Since members are not the ones who will be talking to Hillary after the election, they are anti-Clinton because the Clintons are anti-union. Both sides are making a sensible decision for the role they play.

(9,070 posts)I'm an educator in Florida and a member of the union. I'm also a local officer. We polled members, held chapter and statewide meetings, and looked at candidate information.
Our membership overwhelming went for Hillary. Bernie was third.
Our endorsement of Hillary had nothing to do with "establishment". Hillary is the best candidate to represent educators based on experience and proposed policy.

And as Young Turks pointed out, once something is privatized in the U.S., under TISA it can never be made public again.

Hmm. Now which Democratic candidate running for president in 2016 who served on Walmart's BoD for six years?

(5,252 posts)national, which endorsed Hillary, but the consensus among our local is Bernie. Disappointed in labor in general, considering we'll get more of the same from Hill as we got from Obama.
