You won't believe what happened when I voted in PA today

I cast an absentee ballot because I'll be in Europe on business all of election week. Been working hard for this campaign and am bummed I won't be here to watch the returns.

So what happened when I turned in my absentee ballot? Nothing. No ID request when I picked it up, nor when I handed it in.

Well, it's not entirely true that nothing happened. I did experience a warm wave of pride, hope, and excitement, just as I always do on Election Day.

Good luck on Nov. 6, fellow DUers! Wish I could be here that night. To celebrate.

I keep saying I am going to vote early and haven't done it yet. I realize that my vote for Obama will be a vote for Romney, I live in the solid red state of Georgia ... I wonder what the popular vote will tell us this November. I wish so much that I could cast a vote for Obama and have count ... for Obama. On the local level there are quite a few dems running, who need my support .. so I will vote for them.

Please realize that an Electoral College win without a decisive popular vote win would create even more scorn and dismissiveness for the president than has been heaped on him when he won by a huge margin.

Your vote helps to boost the national popular vote, and that is just as important as anything.

to rig the vote, because in most states it's like that, so the ReThugs overwhelmingly vote absentee, as compared to Democrats.

The bad news is, that in most states, unless the election is VERY close, the absentee votes are never even opened, because if the margin is more than 1%, the media calls the race for the candidate who is ahead and government officials usually go along with that.

I'm pretty sure most provisional ballots never get counted either, usually they only get counted too if the race is really close.

I have no actual proof of this, and no desire to do the research for anyone who wants to challenge me on this, but that's how I remember the last 2 or 3 Presidential Elections going.

Fun fact: When I volunteered for Election Protection for the 2004 Presidential election, they told us to go vote early so that we didn't have to worry about it on Election day. So I did, but that's not the best part of this story. I voted on the Thursday, the week before, 5 days early and had to wait in a 3 1/2 HOUR line that rapped around the building! And I still had to vote on the rigged Diebold Accuvote TS machines, just like everyone else. I heard that it was about the same on every early voting day leading up to that election.

Why the long lines? Well, it had to do with high turn out that year and the fact that where I live, in Cobb County, Georgia, with a population of about 688,078 people (2010 count) had only 3 or 5 early voting locations to use, and at each of those places we all had to check in with the ONE person who checked you in, which meant that once you got though that bottle neck, you had about 20 empty machines to pick from.

Long story short, I'm never doing early voting again until they change out voting system.
