2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumDo you think the "superstorm" will affect the election?
Maybe this impending "frankenstorm" on the East Coast is the October Surprise, courtesy of Mother Nature. Maybe not.
Just curious what, if any, impact people think this storm will have on the election if it gets as bad as they think. It raises all kinds of interesting potential scenarios that could either benefit or hurt both parties and Prez candidates....or possibly not have any effect.
In your opinion, will it be good news for Obama, Romney or will be a wash (literally) in terms of impact?
Might a swift and efficient Federal response help Obama? Or might it be another Katrina in political terms?
If it interrupts campaigning, would that help Obama or Romney?
If it's surpresses voter turnout, who would benefit? Would Obama's lead with early voters become decisive, or would it dampen a base turnout?

(6,915 posts)If it does affect the election, it will give a slight advantage to Obama. Flooding, road damage, power outages are more likely in rural and lightly populated suburbs, which are the home of the most virulent T-Thuglicans. Irene cut our power for 4 or 5 days last year.
Not looking forward to this storm.

(3,590 posts)etc. depending on how the path develops. There is early voting in North Carolina, so many votes have already been cast. My question is if none of the polling places can open on election day what laws are in place to move the election to another date.

(12,041 posts)Even if Obama is immediately on the job as he no doubt will be, Republicans will do everything they can to compare it to Katrina you just watch. I think Obama will come out looking good in the end, but the Republicans are hoping to hold Obama accountable for the weather because they know it is their last hope of winning.

(47,803 posts)The OP did not say the storm would be bad for Obama. I simply posed a question, with an answer that could go either way to see what others might think.
This is a discussion board, after all.
I suppose you would prefer "Rah,Rah,Rah. Obama will win no matter what."

(25,415 posts)I think we will be okay. Hurricane Irene knocked out power in CT but the majority were on a week later and all the major debris was cleaned up by then.
