2016 Postmortem

not to worry.
I live in CA and last week mailed in 2 ballots from my household. As I later dropped the third one into the mail slot, I realized the punch card was for one family member with the envelope for another! That meant the first 2 I sent in were mismatched, too.
It was no comfort that Barack will carry CA in huge numbers without our 3 votes. So I called the 800 number from the voter's guide and explained what had happened. I was told that our votes would NOT be tossed out or set aside and not counted. The punch cards will be matched up with the envelopes and our votes will count. Was also told this happens all the time.
WHEW! We need a smilie for "dumbass!" For now, this one will have to do:

(13,485 posts)someone is on the watch and there are some reasonable election problem solvers.
I sure wouldn't count on that in other states.

(9,298 posts)We were all so anxious to get our votes mailed in...in this case, haste did not make waste, but next time I'll be much more careful. Or hand over that responsibility to another family member!

People, please be careful.
They might count the ballots put in wrong envelops in CA.
Not so fast in some other states.

(58,685 posts)In our household, we filled them out in separate rooms, and I had mine sealed and signed before I even set it on the kitchen counter with the other one to be taken to the drop box.
No mix-ups here.

(9,298 posts)You're all very organized. I made it a point to thank the election person I talked to - she really emphasized they throw NOTHING away. How refreshing.
