2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumPlenty of Republicans will endorse Hillary and there's no point getting mad about it.
There are lots of relatively sane and socially liberal folks out there who would vote for a moderate Republican but are terrified by Cruz and especially Trump. Many of these folks will vote for Hillary; while Cruz or Trump might promise them lower taxes, they see the resounding success that President Obama has had in turning the economy around and see Hillary as the candidate most likely to generally continue his policies.

also the Koch's did not endorse HRC. they said she might be better than the republican choices, which given that Trump is the front runner most people would agree with.

Why pretend otherwise?

(25,406 posts)But I'm not sure that this is the culmination of a rightward move over a long period. Remember when the Congressional Democrats were happy to work with Ronald Reagan to reduce Social Security benefits?

(45,319 posts)" It may be hard for your viewers to remember how difficult it was for people to talk about HIV/AIDS back in the 1980s and because of both president and Mrs. Reagan in particular Mrs. Reagan we started a national conversation, when before nobody would talk about it, nobody wanted to do anything about it, and that too is something I really appreciate with her very effective low-key advocacy. It penetrated the public conscience and people began to say, hey, we have to do something about this too."---Hillary Clinton, inexplicably, March 2016.
So your own candidate has no memory at all of the Reagan era. None. Not that her supporters care about that. They are made up of talking points and greed.

(1,178 posts)I have spoken to several that didn't care for any of the candidates, and we're thinking of not voting. But if Hillary is the nominee, they all said they would vote to vote against her. Two co workers actually like Bernie.

(30,250 posts)I have read that behind the scenes there are some establishment folks who think that Trump is not fit to be president. It's not all about politics, they truly fear that the man would be a disaster and would rather lose this election cycle than see him in the WH. They also fear that he would damage the party's brand for years to come.

(15,805 posts)Democrats have open primaries that attract Republican voters for a varies of reasons. Maybe they just don't like the current GOP candidates, some will cast a protest vote and go with the Dems. There will be moderate Republicans that will find sane Democratic candidates to be more acceptable than what's on the GOP ticket. And there also are Republican women who think that a woman president will be good for the country.
