2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWhat Being a Democrat Really Means
Being a Democrat means we try to achieve goals that benefit the majority of Americans. Goals like the highest minimum wage possible. A goal of having the best health care system we can get. A goal of educating everyone to the highest standard, whether one is rich, poor, or in between.
As Democrats war is the last resort to achieve our foreign goals. Those goals include helping other countries achieve peace and prosperity as they move toward democracy. Our country has failed in large part at spreading democracy due to the focus of our leaders of using war. Iraq and Libya are examples of that failure.
As a Democratic party we are in favor of democracy. In that goal we support everyone voting and making sure the votes are counted as cast. We have failed in that regard due to republican shenanigans limiting the vote, and allowing unverifiable voting systems.
The Democratic party has always been the party whose goals include a clean, safe environment for our children.
These goals and actions are quite clear and designate well who is a real Democrat and who are DINOs. These goals are opposed by republicans and DINOs.
If having read this you can not agree to these goals and yet you offer yourself up as a Democrat, I bid yee farewell and don't let the tent flap hit you on your ass as you leave the tent and find your way to your true home in the republican party.

(11,330 posts)or is our voting goal only if the people are smart enough to vote the way we want them to vote?

(24,853 posts)It's not about what you feel, how you think, or how you act. It's what box you checked on your voter registration form. It's about being "part of the club". They think they're part of "The Club" but they ain't. The true leaders of "The Club" don't give a FUCK about them, or us.

(13,685 posts)A feeling "The Club" thinks they can continue to use us and make us roll over time and again as they increase defense spending, decrease environmental actions, tell us "NO, you can't have that" and otherwise make a mess of the world as they cash their speaking fee checks and take campaign contributions from the other Club members, and laugh at us all the way to their banksters?

(24,853 posts)What's funny though is the number of people here who actually believe their check marks make them part of The Club. AS IF.

(3,733 posts)I don't know who were aiming that at but as far as I know you're not an official
spokeperson for the Democratic party.
I don't know which of the 2 candidates you support and it really doesn't matter because
while your stated goals are the same as mine I can disagree with who is best to reach those goals.
I think I'll stay in the party and continue to vote for Democrats just like I have in every election
since 1980 when I was first old enough to cast a ballot.

(22,336 posts)I voted for Bernie, and he took my state, but if more people vote for Hillary in the primary, then that's the will of the people. I don't understand talking about "real Democrats" but not being particularly interested in real democracy and the real democratic process. She's winning. That's how elections work. Your candidate doesn't always win.

(13,685 posts)I've only been a Democrat for 45 years, so I had not seen it all until this election season. Now I have.

(13,685 posts)Indeed, what I want is a better party. Of course Bernie will make it better and H will make it worse.
