US presidential primaries: Half of Cabinet would be women, says Hillary Clinton

Eyeing to become the first woman president of the US, Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton has said that if elected to the White House half of her Cabinet would be comprised of women.

"I am going to have a cabinet that looks like America, and 50% of America is women, right?" Clinton said during a MSNBC town hall last night on the eve of the crucial East Coast primaries in five states - Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Rhode Island.

Her remarks comes a day after her campaign manager John Podesta said that he would like to see Indian-American Neera Tanden in Clinton's Cabinet.

Tanden had worked for Clinton for more than 14 years and currently is head of the Center for American Progress (CAP), a think-tank which has made its own mark at the national and international level under her leadership.

Talk about SEXIST & misogynistic, and paternalistic.

I say this as a woman. My first business conference back in 1980 there were 98 men and ME.
I got there on my ability, not my gender.

Women was because of affirmative action.

I replied. you then said "that wasn't affirmative action"

So, are you saying the only people who have been systemically disadvantaged in the US are PoC?
Does affirmative action NOT support women, GLBT, and other groups?

in response to my saying your characterization of affirmative action as being quotas is not Affirmative Action.

So, are you saying the only people who have been systemically disadvantaged in the US are PoC?

Again ... I have said, nor implied, any such thing.

Does affirmative action NOT support women, GLBT, and other groups?

Well ... white females are the single most benefitted class by Affirmative Action; but, it has yet to extend to LGBTQ or other "others", beyond disabled veterans.

There is absolutely NOTHING WRONG with a cabinet that is half women, if it were the result of honest selection and vetting based on qualifications. A cabinet/administration SHOULD look like America.

But her statement and framing is just typical Clintonian pandering that is also unworkable if you take her at her word and look at it logically.

So she plans to use a demographic gender formula. Okay...

Then she also has to figure out what percentage of the population is LGBT -- and which percentage of those are L and G and B and T.

Then we have to go by ethnic composition. Percentage of AA and Latino and White, and other ethnicity. And then among those ethnic groups, figure out the percentage of how you would calculate the people who are of mixed race.

How many people have a disability? And which disability?

Income level? Should each income level be represented?

And then we finally start to get to actual qualifications for positions.

If you extend out her promise and accept it literally, there wiould be so many overlapping and paradoxical criteria that it wold be impossible to come up with an acceptable formula.

she can start with an incarcerated pot smoker and a homeless Iraq War vet. Those are two Americans she should be intimately familiar with.

He said that coming into office and pretty much kept his promise. That was one of the reasons he was hated so...long before the Monica affair. People didn't like how comfortable the Clintons were around and among blacks either. He came into office saying that he wanted to help change corporate board rooms to look more like America too. During his administration (with the help of Jesse Jackson and others) that happened. More AA CEOs and corporate presidents, and general manages were hired than previously under any other President and since.

Although Bernie Sanders’ campaign pays women on average a little under $1,000 more than men, the top ten highest-paid employees are all male.

Hillary Clinton’s campaign is also fairly equitable, with male and female staffers making essentially the same amount of money.

Every campaign (excluding Clinton’s, which employs 324 women and 202 men) employs significantly more men than women.

If so I don't care if they are atheist, transgender, mixed people that are black, asian, Hispanic, Irish, legitimate tribal natives, and yet secular Palestinians as well as Jews they are of little to no use.

Why has what you are and who you believe become more important than who you are and what you believe in to some folks?
