2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumVoted for Bernie today. Have never been more proud of a candidate since I first voted in '72.
Just felt great to vote "for" a candidate whose issues parallel my own rather than the old "lesser of two evils" approach.
Regardless, of whether Bernie wins I hope the Democratic Party wakes up and realizes that the current trend towards a neo-conservative foreign policy and neo-liberal fiscal and trade policy is a wedge that will cause more and more progressives to either look elsewhere for candidates who will parallel more of FDR's New Deal approaches OR else will sit out the election preferring not to vote for GOP or Third Way candidates.
Every election the old refrain emerges, it's about the Supreme Court, and hold your nose and vote for the greater good. I've heard it over and over again, so today was like an oasis voting. I actually felt lifted leaving the voting booth because I knew I had voted for a person of integrity for President, a person I would be proud to call my President and someone who I knew wasn't going to dramatically evolve his viewpoints after the election.
I hope everybody who can votes today, and I hope they feel as positive as I did. It's too often a rare feeling leaving the voting booth.

(30,613 posts)I confess I nearly voted for Trump as sabotage to the GOP, but in the end, I wanted to feel the Bern!
It feels so good to do the right thing instead of the slightly less evil thing.

Here's to a future where every election day feels good. Elections where we can vote with our heads and our hearts - simultaneously.

(11,197 posts)Been voting regularly since 76, but my vote for Bernie in the NC primary brought me the greatest satisfaction. I can honestly say I am done with the "lesser of two evils" vote. Been doing it for far too long, but no more, it simply enables them. My future political donations will be directed only to specific candidates, and not political parties or their myriad of PACs/Super PACs/Maxi PACs/MEGA PACs.
