2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI know it's hard right now, but don't let your passion get the better of your intellect.
For example, apparently some people decided to coordinate an effort to get Sanders FB groups shut down. I've tried to find unbiased articles that have more actual details on how and why this happened. It seems the reports were accusing the groups of posting child pornography, and while I cannot find anything official to confirm this, some horrible person may have even joined those groups to post something pornographic that people could alert on (and if true, that person needs to DIAF.) From Heavy.com, all groups have been reinstated.
The timing was after David Brock's announcement that he was putting more money into Correct the Record's online efforts to counter GOP attacks against Hillary. Given Brock has a dubious reputation but certainly is an expert on GOP smears, and the announcement was to put a million more into their online efforts, I understand it's tempting to want to connect the two.
But CTR's efforts are actually far more similar to Obama's Fight the Smears, which also employed people to direct online efforts toward sending graphics and facts to supporters, and sharing them out with people who you think will agree, when you take the time to read CTR's announcement.
Another place I ask you to put aside you passion and look at things logically is that as much as I'd love to have a million dollars (I would still eat Kraft Dinner, too, though), that's not really a great salary number if you're planning on creating an effective paid shill troll brigade. It's enough to give about 50 people jobs that would pay, before taxes, what.I draw on SSDI. The post that the official Bernie reddit banned to /r/conspiracy in November, resurfacing now, suggests pay of maybe $100 a week, but that's still an awful tiny brigade (and bears a great deal of resemblance, except with more realism re salaries and accusations, to a much better written piece acknowledged by the author to be a hoax).
I really don't think the FB asshattery is a Brock-baby -- and I think if you look at the facts dispassionately, you'll see that calling CTR's announcement of putting a million more into a website for people who support Hillary already to gather and fight smears "creating a giant army of paid trolls" to be both impossible and gross exaggeration of facts.
----
So, the fact still exists -- there are people doing terrible things to Bernie Supporters and groups. If not Brock, if not Hillary, who are they?
I think if you ask yourselves these questions, you'll figure out the answers.
Who has raised far more dark money so far? Who has repeatedly ran ads that appear to be from Democrats against other Democrats but not been Democrats? Who have been known for decades as ratfuckers worse than any Democrat, even ones you might think are corrupt ones?
Since the answer to those three is the GOP, including Rove, the Koch Brothers, and lots of people acting far worse than anyone with Ds by their name....
I hope that those passionately saying Hillary supporters are all paid shills supporting anti-Democratic tactics and coordinating attacks against Bernie and supporting child pornography will at least pause a moment and take a deep breath before continuing.
And those who are more rational but still rightly upset that this happened, will remember who stands to gain from our infighting.

(8,311 posts)However, here is the statement from Bros4Hillary.
http://www.bros4hillary.com/statement-from-b4h-leadership/
Last night, a former member by the name of Casey Champagne decided to engage in harassing behavior toward Facebook groups of Bernie Sanders and posted about it in the B4H Facebook group. As stated above, this was not promoted or supported by the leadership of B4H, nor were we immediately aware of this conduct. We removed the offending posts and member as soon as possible. While our leadership team of administrators tries to catch every questionable post and comment, with over 7,000 members and on a 24-hour posting cycle, some fall through the cracks. We rely on members to flag and report harmful, offensive, or trolling behavior, and apologize to the groups that were affected. This member acted on his own authority, is not a part of our leadership team, and does not represent our ideals or our opinions.
To wit: Bros4Hillary is NOT defunct, as reported today by the DailyKos. We temporarily changed our privacy settings after being flooded by online attacks from external members who were upset by Mr. Champagnes behavior. We will go live again shortly and are excited about what is to come. We are growing every day. Our members have made over 20,000 calls across the United States, raised thousands of dollars, and are now apart of creating a ground campaign in California. We thank all of our members for their incredible contributions and regret that the actions of a few would spoil the work of the many. Any media inquiries regarding this incident or any other Bros4Hillary content may be made to: alex@bros4hillary.com. Thank you.

(38,502 posts)By HIRING Brock, Clinton put a pre-stamp of approval on ANY degree of smear tactic. Disagree with that ...

(8,311 posts)They seem to be blaming and naming names of the person responsible for what happened?

(38,502 posts)There's no need for me to connect anything. David Brock is CONNECTED to Hillary Clinton.

Hillary is fighting against the left, ergo she is the repuke.

(113,063 posts)then had the nerve to grab one of my photos of my daughter who was 11 in the photo. He then posted her photo thinking it was me and spread it around Facebook warning that I was posting pornography to him and that everyone should report me to Facebook.
I tracked the guy to NJ, contacted his 30yo son and told him that if he didn't get his father to stop his crazy postings, that my next step would be to contact the police in his town.
The son took it seriously and the photos were all removed. The same guy posts all over the MSNBC pages and still uses questionable photos. I no longer post there. Yeah - his group of GOP trolls pushed even a fighter like me out.

(8,311 posts)... it got resolved quickly.
And thanks for reminding all of us that if someone did use a picture of an innocent child in the FB asshattery, that child is the real victim... not us.
