And this year the Democratic, American Independent, and Libertarian parties are letting non-partisan voters vote in their presidential primaries.

We like to change things every few years to keep people on their toes.

Unaffiliated or small 'i' independent. In CA there is the American Independence party and people (approx 300k) have mistakenly registered as that thinking they were registering as independent aka unaffiliated. This has been an ongoing problem in California for decades....

Many people register for it thinking they are independent but it is actually a fringe right wing party.
