Democratic Strategist: Trump will Beat Hillary

Last edited Thu Apr 28, 2016, 09:31 PM - Edit history (4)

Democratic strategist Dave “Mudcat” Saunders believes Donald Trump will beat Hillary Clinton..... (He worked with Jim Webb and John Edwards)

“I know a ton of Democrats — male, female, black and white — here [in southern Virginia] who are going to vote for Trump. It’s all because of economic reasons. It’s because of his populist message,” Mudcat told The Daily Caller Wednesday.

Working class whites in the South have already departed the Democratic Party for cultural reasons. Well the working class whites in the North are now deserting the Democrats because of economic reasons,” Mudcat told TheDC. He added, “this is the new age of economic populism, man. This is about survival for a lot of people.”

“I hear on TV people taking about Bernie Sanders being negative, he ain’t attack her, he just tapped on her,” Mudcat said. He added, “Trump’s going to take a wire-brush to her.”

Both Trump and Clinton have unfavorable ratings in polls, both at near 60 percent. Mudcat said, “I think [Trump] can drive her negs to 80.”

Paul Begala, adviser to pro-Clinton super PAC Priorities USA Action, refuted this sentiment, telling TheDC, “She has taken more incoming fire than a redneck rifle range — and she’s still standing. No one better to stand up to the bully Trump — who has gotten nothing but air-kisses from his weakling GOP opponents.”

Mudcat says that Trump will bring up quid pro quo with the Clinton foundation and foreign nations, something that has not been brought up so far this election by Sanders.

“I don’t know how in the hell she’s going to win Ohio and Pennsylvania.” He added that Virginia, his home state, is definitely a “swing state now.”

Added: They have been trying to cover up the fact that Democrats have been voting for Trump because they are fed up. State after state they come up with some stupid excuse. But they are just excuses. Trump will win OH and PA.

And the guy is right. It is not only whites that are fed up (even though they constantly try to paint it as a race issue, they want people to believe that it's not about having their jobs shipped overseas, and the in-sourcing of foreign workers, it is about people being upset with the browning of America). Hogwash! I have talked to quite a few Black Americans in my state that are voting for Trump, others that voted for Bernie, and one for Clinton. Clinton needs a HIGH percentage of Black voters in the general. She will not get it. People are fed up with Clinton economics. And MANY Black Americans got screwed over by the banks with the subprime mortgages - AND NO it was NOT their fault. One of our friends was screwed over by Wells Fargo and lost his home.

The Corporate Media had a black out on Bernie while they built up Trump. They wanted those populist voters to flock anywhere but Bernie, the one true Populist in the race.

The Democratic Establishment isn't going to know what hit them come November...

The Sec of State had an email set up like that of previous Sec of States, and the Republicans have asked that the FBI investigate the facts, which they are doing. That is their job. The FBI does not indict anyone, they turn their investigation over to the DOJ with recommendations on whether anyone intended to violate the law. In case you missed it, there were hostile congressional hearings last year on this very issue, and the Republicans, having all the emails, looked like complete and utter fools while Clinton handled them for 11 hours.

What you are essentially saying is that Attorney General Loretta Lynch is going to recommend prosecution of the Secretary of State for trying to use a more secure than normal email method, despite a lack of evidence on compromise of actual information or intent to compromise. That's un-fucking-hinged. Un-fucking-hinged.

Clinton in an electoral college landslide (well over 300 electoral college votes). Including victory in Ohio and Pennsylvania.

And I'm not sure what was meant by this Mudcat guy's Virginia comment. That Virginia is a swing state now is good news for Democrats. Instead of it being a Republican stronghold, it's now a state that the Democratic candidate can win.

A brief glance at Mudcat's Wikipedia page indicates he's someone who still thinks the key to Democratic victories is appealing to white males. While he may want his theory to be proven true, it clearly isn't.

The Daily Caller is a politically conservative[2][3] news and opinion website based in Washington, D.C.. It was founded by Tucker Carlson, a libertarian conservative[4][5] political pundit, and Neil Patel, former adviser to former Vice President Dick Cheney. The site's sections includes politics, business, world news, entertainment, sports, education, technology, outdoors, and energy.

The Daily Caller launched on January 11, 2010. In late 2012, The New York Times reported that the site had quadrupled its page view and total audience and had become profitable without ever buying an advertisement for itself.[6]

Carlson serves as the publication's main editor-in-chief with Vince Coglianese as his executive editor.[7]

And your prediction about Pennsylvania is at odds with multiple polls that show Clinton winning handily over Trump in Pennsylvania. (The only two recent polls that show it being close are from Quinnipiac and Fox, both of which underestimated Clinton's strength in the Pennsylvania primary by 10 percent).

Who is he? He's the "Democratic" strategist who appears more often on RW sites like Daily Caller and Breitbart than on any actual progressive or even Democratic sites.

He's the "Democratic" strategist that thinks all the Democratic party has to do to win is kowtow to the Bubba vote -- the portion of the electorate that is doomed to minority status.

He's the "Democratic strategist" that "advised" (not that anyone was listening to him) that Obama should stop pushing on gun control

And he's the "Democratic strategist" who thinks that the battle to remove symbols of the Confederacy is bullshit and pushed Webb to take that position:

"Webb's longtime strategist, Dave "Mudcat" Saunders, is an even more ardent fan and defender of the Confederacy. As the New Yorker reported in 2008, Saunders "sleeps under a Rebel-flag quilt, and when challenged on such matters he has invited his inquisitors to 'kiss my Rebel ass'—his way of making the point that when Democrats are drawn into culture battles by prissy liberal sensitivities they usually lose the larger war." Saunders is currently advising Webb on his potential presidential campaign."

Yeah, he's just the guy you want to cite. And if you think he stands for much of anything that Sanders' stands for your out of your mind.

Being a Bernie supporter (and I'm one) doesn't mean you have to check your common sense at the door.

Just looking at a headline is what led you to post an interview from a RW site with a discredited racist "Democratic" strategist.

Just looking at the headline on my link is what led you to miss the sentence stating that the same poll that had Clinton leading Sanders in the primary had Clinton leading Trump in the GE in Pennsylvania.

Here, I'll quote it for you: Both candidates beat Republican front-runner Donald Trump in a hypothetical general election match-up. Clinton leads the business mogul 54 to 39 percent, while Sanders tops him 57 to 37 percent.

Yes, Bernie has a bigger margin. But its not likely that the same poll is correct about Bernie defeating Trump and wrong about Clinton beating him.

Again, I urge you to think about reading what you post about before you post it.

This guy has already taken down establishment politician in Bush. Compared to the other clowns in the race, Bush had clean and reasonable record, and he went from leading candidate to 1% support in like 3 months.

Trump in the general will really moderate his positions and all his bigotry/sexism will be in the rear view mirror, while all Hillary issues (corruption, financing, Clinton foundation, emails, "establishment", etc) will be at the forefront.

The one thing Trump can do better than anyone is driving the national narrative. If you are not attacking, you are defending. This partially explains Bernie main problem in the primary. Bernie had very clean record, but he was on the defensive more than Clinton was despite all her baggage.

And that is now when Trump is at his lowest, and Hillary at her peak. We all know how what happens to her numbers the further she campaigns.

Trump does not need to win latinos/blacks. Romney lost blacks by 90%, Latinos by 50%+, and was only 2-3% off winning. As Bernie always says, its always about turnout. This is poised to be the most negative campaign ever, and negative campaigns depress turnout. It will be question of who's base turns out.

Today Mudcat Saunders revealed himself as the most obnoxious, biggest turncoat in VA electoral politics. I refer to his barely-short-of-an-endorsement statement that he hopes Cuccinelli wins. Calling McAuliffe a corporate Democrat, Saunders said he hopes Ken Cuccinelli wins the governor’s race in VA. I refer you to this article from the Washington Post.

It's shameful.
And I say that as someone who has supported Bernie with my wallet and my vote.

The posting of rightwing sites and people like Napolitano is shameful. No one should do this. Thanks for your reply.

Try to be less than predictable once it a while!

I think it's safe to say that anytime you see those words in any story, you can discount the entire story.

In a country as populated and as diverse as ours, there's no reason to waste even a second on anecdotal crap.

The quotes/quotation marks don't all align, and is Mudcat Saunders now working for Trump? If so, why should anyone care what he's saying?

I started to click on the link, but "trump will beat hillary like a baby seal" stopped me. I can take metaphors like "mop the floor with," or "beating a dead horse," but this "beating her badly" and "beating her like a (fill in the blank)" are new rightwing dog whistles, afa I'm concerned.

And any one person's claims of the folks they have met does not equal a national trend.

National trend: By and large, minorities and women have known HRC's work an commitment for decades, and are not going to be swayed by people who supposedly "know better."

There are probably ways that he could fix or fine tune his approach to make it work for a larger swath of the country- and as such have a chance- but fuck all if I would want to help the guy, so Im not giving him any free advice in that regard.

Either way he doesnt seem interested in or capable of that, maybe due to ego, ADHD or some shit, but for whatever reason he seems destined to slo mo implode.

Its a shame - sort of- that he is making it so easy, because as such Hillary wont be forced to be a better candidate and leader, if she can phone it in and still win. But that is probably what will happen.

It's a perfect storm scenario and one that could have Hillary losing in a landslide.

A centrist Dem who is loathed by both sides of the aisle and who the majority of America doesn't trust VS a RW populist who on some issues is to the left of Hillary?

We warned you Hillary supporters long ago that nominating her would drive the GOP base out in droves because they salivate at voting against her & now if she's the nominee she'll be facing a populist.

This isn't Romney folks. She has no enthusiasm except the 55% of Dems who like her, that is it. Yup, not good.

The Repub women who don't like him now will turn around and go home.

Independents of all demographics don't like liars or corruption. That's the only case he needs to make, and she has provided lots of ammo that is true.

Superpacs will sprout up like mushrooms in the Spring, to make that case against her. Add to that trade agreements, and boom! goes Hillary.

Then there's the FBI, and her conduct as Secretary of State, also no secret. She would be toast.
