2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI considered supporting Bernie
And being that I voted in April, I had a lot of time to think about it. There are many pros and cons for both Hillary and Bernie. But one theme always lead me away from Bernie. I liked some things about Bernie, but I really disliked some of the people around him. From Weaver and Devine which I consider slimy, to the guy that called Hillary a w****, to the people that would write cruel stuff like this. I couldn't understand why people that were so intolerant of dissent were tolerated by the Sanders camp.
So in the end, after much consideration I couldn't trust that Bernies administration would be any more tolerant of free thought and dissent than his campaign was. It was not the only reason. But it was a big one.

(247 posts)are actually Bernie supporters. Remember on the internet no one knows you are a dog...or a hired troll.

(81,859 posts)You never know who is who. I was on the receiving end of plenty of abusive behavior by people sporting Bernie sigs for months. Friends of mine that weren't Bernie supporters and weren't on DU said they felt his supporters were too aggressive. I never asked how so since I had a similar experience. And other people I trust like Al Franken were on the receiving end of the same treatment.

Ok, then.
This is why I just can't take what is said here seriously. "Some random guy at a rally said something, and that determines my vote!"
vs.
"These people actively wrecked our economy to enrich themselves."
And it's the random guy at the rally that draws your attention and lather.
Are you for real?

(5,815 posts)Your OP is about how some random guy at a rally helps determine your vote, and how you dislike two advisers because they give off an odd vibe to you.
My question is, how did you say that - out loud and quite in public - without immediately realizing how shallow and foolish it sounded?
Especially when, if you were actually using that as any kind of objective standard, you could not immediately find similar instances in Clinton's surrogates and advisers who have similar problems or much, much worse.
Anyone who says, "Well, some random guy said something, so . . ." and declares in public that's a reason for voting a certain way comes from enormous privilege. It says to me, "I don't take this seriously, because I don't have to."
You know what's also a fun game? Fallout 4. Get thee to a Best Buy. You'll occupy yourself in a way you clearly crave with game-playing, and the bonus is that other people won't get screwed over by the logic of someone else's poor decision making.

(19,877 posts)Bernie voted to protect gun industry. Not Hillary. Bernie voted against immigration. Not Hillary. Bernie voted against rescuing the economy and the auto industry. Not Hillary.

(5,815 posts)And most importantly, I'm familiar with the context of all the votes and what each candidate advocated.
If we're this far into the primary, and you're still relying on simplistic (and dishonest) statements, I'm going to assume substantial response is wasted.

(19,877 posts)Somewhere along the way I must have failed some purity tests and was met with uber-hostility. Team Hillz welcomed me with open arms. Besides, no other candidate has the backing of civil rights icons, unions, gun control groups, enviro groups, lgbt groups, and a vastly diverse base and coalition. #ImWithHer

Phew, glad that phase is over.

(50,949 posts)letting random people decide our vote for us. For me, it was that it became more and more obvious that, if Sanders ever did win, his nasty supporters would turn off the rest of the electorate. It seemed certain to me that they would blow the election for the Democrats if Sanders won the primary.
Then I began looking into his achievements (or lack thereof) and Hillary became the clear choice.

(45,084 posts)I loved it when she slapped down the idiot who said there was a special place in hell for me and the other idiot who decided I'm a slut who only supports Bernie because that's where the boys hang out. I loved the fact that David Brock, a worthless piece of shit who deliberately set out to destroy a wonderful intelligent black woman is working with the woman who purports to fight for all women and have their backs.

(1,947 posts)then the democrats were offered a real candidate. He didn't win, but he managed to show me there is another way, this is why I will not be able to support Hillary in the general, my morals will not allow me to vote for someone who aligns herself with wall st. and lobbyists. Someone who aligns herself with the war machine and the banks. For this reason I will have to skip the general election regarding president. I won't vote for blood on my hands. You guys can, not I, good luck in November, if not indicted first.

(46,179 posts)I never considered supporting Clinton; I've been repulsed by her for decades.
But I really get disliking the people around her. Too many have been, and continue to be, over-the-top despicable.
