when did recall elections really hit their stride?

I see they are still in fashion.
was this a recent deal in the US?
Was there a bygone golden era,
or will we see even more of the same?
Are federal recalls out of the question?
just curious.
thanks!

Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, North Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island, Washington, and Wisconsin.

Back in the late 90's and early 2000's, Republicans were ascendant in California and did it with some success.
