2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumIn 2008, why didn't HRC spend all summer 'contesting' the convention?
She could have set the DNC ablaze, spent all summer sending her surrogates and WJC to target the superdelegates and worked the floor hard come balloting time.
She also could have caused a monumental crisis over FL/MI delegate selection.
What did she do instead? Something stupid. She said 'can you help me pay off my campaign debt, Barack? You can? Ok? Great! No VP slot for me? That's fine. I will still deliver a barnstormer convention speech for you and my husband and I will campaign tirelessly for you in 2008 and 2012 not to mention put your name in nomination at the convention!'
I don't know why she didn't fight tirelessly to place JSM in the W.H.
Signed,
Someone who despised HRC until her DNC actions in 2008 and a PBHO supporter since Dec. 2006!

(31,700 posts)But after top surrogates asked Obama to help retire Clinton's campaign debt, amounting to more than $22 million, he asked many of his campaign bundlers to chip in to help his former rival.

Hillary didn't want any particular policy. Hillary didn't ask for anything to help Americans out. She just wanted Obama to get her debt paid off.

(19,460 posts)Campaign funds left over after the GE can be spent in several ways and retiring campaign debt is one of them.

(14,255 posts)Favors granted, deals struck? Even her campaign blather is all "I I I me me me". And, just perhaps, she was promised a coronation in 2016. Promised that the DNC would very carefully ensure that there would be no strong competition for her in 2016? Very few debates? Grease the skids as much as was possible?
And a job to keep her visible until then. She is never about the people, always about herself.
