I agree w/ Hillary, it's time to elect a woman for President. But I want that President to reflect the values of being a mother. #MothersDay
Why though? Kind of harsh.
Here's the rest of it.

It also tries to trade away those jobs to other countries.

(10,650 posts)Bernie has voted for war funding. Once the troops are engaged in battle, it is the absolute responsibility of the congress to provide funding for the troops' protection. Bernie did the right thing.
Hillary, on the other hand, cynically and dishonestly voted to invade Iraq and to start an idiotic war. Bernie voted no.

(13,877 posts)Thankfully, with the bad press that got, we never heard from her again. She was truly a very bad speaker. And then, her mother did not even stand behind her. She let the press go after her.
So, I'm not getting the Great Mother vibe, either.

(81 posts)Has been running for offices, as a Green Party candidate, here in Mass, since the early 2000s. Only successful at being elected as a Lexington town meeting rep. She's currently a Green Party candidate for President. She also ran in 2012.
Is a town meeting rep like a councilman? Kind of a big leap from a small town council to the presidency of the United States.
KK9
(81 posts)It's a little different than a councilman. New England town structures are weird.
I've only lived here in New England, but I think a Councilman plays both executive and legislative roles? Here (in "towns", as opposed to "cities" (based on government structure, not size), the "Board of Selectmen" is the executive body and they are always elected and the "Town Meeting" is the legislative body. Some towns have a representative Town Meeting, where they elect the Town Meeting reps who can vote to make and amend laws (Lexington does this, and that's what Jill Stein has been). My town has a "Direct Town Meeting", where every registered voter can go to Town Meeting and legislate. We have them twice a year and they are a hoot and tons of fun. One of the few forms of real direct democracy left in the world. EXTREMELY inefficient, however.
But, yeah, being a Town Meeting rep is not a big deal. A smallish fish in an even smaller pond .

(8,812 posts)My guess is that you don't know who Jill Stein is because you rely on corporate media for your news.
Nothing personal. It's not meant as an attack. Just a sad reality.
As the late Danny Schechter ("the news dissector" used to say, "The more you watch, the less you know."
Drunken Irishman
(34,857 posts)But question - why should I know her? Has she done anything significant at any point in her life that would make it possible for an average person like me to know who she is? And don't just say running for president. There's 100 people running for president and I'm guessing you don't know most of them.
Why should I know who she is?
RufusTFirefly
(8,812 posts)Also (to my knowledge), she was part of the only all-female presidential ticket in history. (with Cheri Honkala).
That alone would seem to be newsworthy, even as a curiosity.
After all, we've got a Reality Show character (almost entirely a product of media coverage) as the presumed Republican Presidential nominee.
But covering Jill Stein would cut into coverage of the Kardashians. Or of Justin Bieber's latest arrest.
https://m.
The problem with being in the corporate media bubble is that you aren't even aware you're inside of it until you manage to get out. But unfortunately, most people never do.
And most people get rather snippy when they're told they're still inside of it. It's somewhat like the reaction of someone who insists that something happened to "a friend of a friend" when informed that the true story is actually a well known urban legend.

(34,857 posts)If she had done anything substantial, like won an electoral vote or been elected to any meaningful office, then I could see your point.
I bet most people wouldn't even know who held the distinction of most votes for a female presidential candidate in history prior to that.
She received 400,000 votes. Cool. That's .36% of the overall 2012 vote total.
Wow! You know who received that much in a presidential race? Michael Badnarik, in 2004, and I have no fucking clue who he is, either.
Had to look that up, though.

(4,532 posts)Her entire political career she has done nothing but hurt the left. Whether we like it or not, the American Political system is a two party system. When someone runs as a 3rd party candidate, every vote cast in favor of them takes a vote away from the candidate on the left who has a chance. It also helps the candidate on the right by eliminating a vote that could have been cast against them. Bernie is the only voice for Progressives in this election, but if he doesn't win the nomination, we can't afford to be picky, there is too much on the line. Shame on Jill Stein.

It doesn't matter now and it won't matter in 2017. No one will be checking for her until she decides to lose yet again in 2020. Just like in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2010, 2012 and 2016.

A British economist named John Maynard Keynes radically changed the course of U.S. fiscal policy.
A big-eared crank from Texas, who was neither a Democrat nor a Republican, warned that NAFTA would cause a "giant sucking sound." Guess what? He was right.
As Democrats, we ignore the views of "outsiders" at our peril.
